Loretta Lynn’s Ranch Heavily Damaged During Severe Storms By Sarah Wyland gactv.com
Loretta Lynn was left with quite the mess following severe storms that ripped through Middle Tennessee in the early morning hours of Wednesday, reports WSMV. Storms leveled parts of her ranch, aptly-titled Hurricane Mills, uprooting hundreds of trees and forcing Loretta to take cover in a closet.
While Loretta has lived on the 6,500-acre ranch for more than 20 years, the ranch is also a tourist attraction. It ranks as the 17th most-visited attraction in Tennessee and at the time of the storms, three campers were on the property.
“It was intense. I mean, it was intense,” camper Scott Myers said. “We heard it, but there was no time to go anywhere,” added camper Jim Watson. “We just had to ride it out.”
Ranch manager Will Rourke is hoping to get the historic site cleaned up and back in business before the season starts in a few months. “Of course, one of our biggest events is the Grand National Motocross, and we’ll have more than 30,000 people on our property over a two-week period,” he said.
Crews spent much of Thursday clearing debris on the ranch. Estimates could be as much as $100,000 to repair everything damaged during the storms.

I have the movie 'Coal Miner's Daughter' on VHS. I loved the movie, but didn't like the language Mooney used and maybe a couple other things I might have forgotten....been forever since I've watched it. I've always admired Loretta Lynn!

Loretta Lynn Ranch Fire Destroys Building on Legend's Property
HURRICANE MILLS, Tenn. -- Fire has destroyed the cook shack at country singer Loretta Lynn's Dude Ranch.
WSMV-TV reported the fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. Thursday on the ranch at Hurricane Mills in Humphreys County. There were no injuries.
The shack was used to prepare food for trail riders at the ranch in western Middle Tennessee.
The flames did not endanger Lynn's home.
The house, though, was damaged by recent storms that also mowed down hundreds of trees on the 6,000-acre property.
Lynn chronicled her life in an autobiography and song, both entitled "Coal Miner's Daughter."
She was born in the coalfields of eastern Kentucky.

wow....Loretta's had bad luck with her property lately. Storms and a fire.
I read Loretta's last book ...this one might be interesting but it doesn't sound very personal...maybe more of a music anthology.
Thanks for posting all the news Kim. I haven't read much of any news in months so I'm wayyyyyy behind.

I agree she is having lots of bad luck...maybe she shouldn't have named her ranch after a Hurricane! I hope this is not a percursor to her future. I know that Johnny Cash's place turned into ashes after his death. I think we need to start giving these living ledgends more support while they are still with us.

Loretta Lynn to Receive Presidential Medal of Freedom
By Christina Vinson August 9, 2013 tasteofcountry.com
What do Loretta Lynn, Bill Clinton and Oprah Winfrey have in common? They are among sixteen recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the nation’s highest civilian honor.
On Friday (Aug. 9), President Barack Obama named sixteen recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.
Lynn, who was raised in rural Kentucky, will receive the honor because she is truly a country music legend. Ever since the 1960s, when she emerged as one of the first successful female country music vocalists, the songstress has been courageously breaking barriers in an industry long dominated by men. Plus, the ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ hitmaker has received numerous accolades, which include the Kennedy Center Honors in 2003 and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.
President Obama added his words of support for the recipients, saying, “The Presidential Medal of Freedom goes to men and women who have dedicated their own lives to enriching ours. This year’s honorees have been blessed with extraordinary talent, but what sets them apart is their gift for sharing that talent with the world. It will be my honor to present them with a token of our nation’s gratitude.”
Along with Lynn, Clinton and Winfrey, there’s a wide array of honorees. Included in this special mix are Ernie Banks (one of the greatest baseball players of all time), Daniel Kahneman (a pioneering scholar of psychology) and Sally Ride (the first American female astronaut to travel to space), among many other extremely talented and impactful recipients.
This good news came at the right time for Lynn, who recently lost her oldest daughter. Hopefully, in the midst of her grief, she’ll find great privilege in all of the lives she continues to change for the better.
The awards will be presented at the White House later this year.

I've been listening to Loretta's new studio album (love, love, love, love it) and came across this old interview she had on the Roseanne Show. Guess I missed that Roseanne had a talk show along the way. I've loved Loretta for ....oh my gosh...over 45 years...and there's stuff she says in this interview I hadn't heard before.
