Kathy Mattea, 'Calling Me Home' Will Be First Album for Sugar Hill
Kathy Mattea, who scored 15 consecutive Top 10 hits -- and four No. 1 singles, from 1986-1991 -- will soon return with a brand-new album on Sugar Hill Records, the label that is currently home to Marty Stuart, Connie Smith and Don Williams, among many others. Kathy is set to release 'Calling Me Home,' which she describes as a love letter to her home state of West Virginia, later this year.
The singer, who first came to the attention of country fans in 1986 with the Top 5 hit, 'Love at the Five and Dime,' says signing with the Sugar Hill is "like coming home. It's a wonderful fit for the music I am making these days, and I'm so excited to be there."
The 53-year-old, who has also taken on the role of activist, released her most recent album, the Grammy-nominated 'Coal,' in 2008. It topped the bluegrass charts for two weeks. A two-time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, Kathy's other well-known hits include 'Goin' Gone,' 'Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses' and the Grammy-winning 'Where've You Been.'
In addition to Kathy's upcoming CD this year, later this month, on April 24, Sugar Hill will release 'Nashville, Vol. 1: Tear the Woodpile Down,' by Marty Stuart, who co-produced the 'Coal' collection. One of the most successful independent labels for more than 30 years, Sugar Hill specializes in bluegrass, roots and Americana releases from a wide variety of artists.
