Kenny Chesney Brings ‘Summertime’ to TODAY Show
Country music reigned supreme in New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza on Friday morning (June 22). Kenny Chesney helped turn the Big Apple into a hoedown on a hot and humid morning with a performance on the TODAY show summer concert series.
Chesney has played the TODAY summer concert series previously, but every time he invades the stage, it’s always a good time. There were plenty of cowboy hats in the crowd so for a good portion of the morning, Manhattan was bitten by the country music bug.
The singer, who released ‘Welcome to the Fishbowl‘ last week, performed the beyond appropriate ‘Summertime,’ having let fans vote for which of his many hits would start his set. Well over 50 percent of fans wanted to hear that song, rightfully so.
In the interview segment, which was pre-taped, Chesney, who is on tour with Tim McGraw for their Brothers of the Sun trek, also spoke about how he chooses his songs, saying that they have to be relatable, either making people laugh or cry. When asked if he could be something other than a country megastar, he mused that he’d be a dive master in the islands. He also said his favorite childhood memories are of eating, too. The super in-shape singer rarely indulges in junk food or salt, likes to eat comfort food that reminds him of his youth when he goes home to see his family in Tennessee.

Kenny Chesney’s ‘Welcome to the Fishbowl’ Debuts as Top Country AlbumBy: Sterling Whitaker Just when you think Kenny Chesney can’t get any hotter, he goes and proves you wrong. The country superstar’s new album ‘Welcome to the Fishbowl’ debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, selling more than 193,000 units in its opening week according to Nielsen SoundScan. ‘Fishbowl’ is Chesney’s eleventh straight album to debut in the top position. The album — which impacted June 19 — also comes in at No. 2 on the overall Billboard Top 200, just behind teen superstar Justin Bieber‘s new record, but surpassing the first week sales of Chesney’s last three releases. “This dramatic increase in sales is a real testament to the strength of his new music, as well as the continued momentum of his career at every level,” Sony Music Nashville Chairman & CEO Gary Overton says in a press release Wednesday. ‘Welcome to the Fishbowl’ has already scored a Top 10 hit with ‘Feel Like a Rock Star,’ the duet with Chesney’s good friend and Brothers of the Sun Tour partner Tim McGraw. Chesney’s current single ‘Come Over’ is one of the fastest-breaking songs of his career. The reigning hitmaker kept himself busy during the album’s opening week, offering fans a a free 75-minute concert directed for a live stream by Academy Award-winning director Jonathan Demme as part of the American Express Unstaged series. Chesney also performed on ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ and the ‘Today‘ show Summer Concert Series, where he gave his eager fans a taste of the new album. The singer is slated to take part in Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular alongside pop starlet Katy Perry. That televised light show airs Wednesday, July 4 on NBC at 9PM ET.

Kenny Chesney Reveals New Album Title: Life On A Rock By Sarah Wyland gactv.com
Kenny Chesney not only released his latest single, “Pirate Flag,” on Thursday, he also announced the title of his new album. Life On a Rock will hit stores April 30. Co-produced by Kenny and his longtime producer Buddy Cannon, the 10-track project was recorded in Los Angeles, Hawaii, Jamaica, Key West, London and Nashville.
“It all depends on what kind of rock you’re looking at,” Kenny said of the title. “Just living here on this planet, we’re all living life on a rock; but for me, and for this record, it’s about the way life is when you live on an island. Everywhere you go, there’s everyone you know; you know everything about them, and they know everything about you… and well, that’s just a whole other way to be.
“And coming from Luttrell, Tennessee, I can tell you, ‘life on a rock’ isn’t all that different from life in a real small town,” he continued. “It’s slower, it’s easier, it’s more invested and it’s also more about really enjoying the moments as they are, when they are.”
“Pirate Flag” has already been named ‘Song of the Week’ by USA Today in their Listen Up! column. Life On A Rock runs the spectrum, including introspective ballads, a duet with Willie Nelson and even a bit of reggae. It also celebrates the life most people live without realizing it.
“At the end of the day, what defines life for most people, certainly for me, are the people you share it with,” Kenny said. “When you live in close proximity, you share the highs and lows of everyday life and become close in ways you can’t even explain. Years go by… People move on… But that time, those friends remain with you no matter where you go. That’s where the treasures of being alive are found.
“When I first went to the islands, I met a lot of people who were making a life beyond anything any of them knew,” he continued. “They were boatmen, bartenders, waitresses, real estate folks. They were all loving life, living a dream and coloring outside the lines with this real sense of freedom; they took a country singer from East Tennessee into their tribe at a time when having friends outside everything I knew was important. Time passes, life moves on, but those friends lasted, and this album in a lot of ways is about the power of that kind of friendship to endure.”
Kenny will kick off his No Shoes Nation Tour on March 16 in Tampa.

Kenny Chesney Won't Tour in 2014
August 2, 2013
Kenny Chesney will not tour in 2014, he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. The hiatus marks the second time since 2001 that the country star has not done an annual tour. He will spend the year working on a new album to follow up Life on a Rock, released in April. "I love touring more than anyone in the world," Chesney told the trade publication. "I love the band, the crew, the whole team -- and it's weird to not be looking at next year's stage design, but I shouldn't make albums to service the tour. So I'm going to put the music first, dial it back and do the strangest thing in the world: not hit the road next summer." Chesney's No Shoes Nations tour continues Saturday (Aug. 3) in Atlanta and will hit five other cities before closing with shows scheduled for Aug. 23-24 at Gillette Stadium near Boston.
