Kora, sorry to be away so much. I got myself into a bit of an exciting adventure. My sister and me decided to buy a place of our own! We are still both living with mom & dad. So this is exciting, yet terrifying! A mortgage. Wow! But I'm in love with the house and yard! So I think it will all be worth it. We are moving in the beginning of March. Yay!

George Strait Makes a Dream Come True

January 19th, 2013 will be a night Angel and her parents will never forget thanks to George Strait. The singer, who is currently on his “Cowboy Rides Away” tour, took time out of his day to make the day of someone else. Angel is a 16 year old with severe cerebral palsy and brain damage who happens to love George Strait.

Angel is not really able to do much besides watch T.V. and listen to music and George Strait always makes her face light up. Back in 2006 Angel’s parents heard that George Strait was coming to town and they decided to contact his management team. They sent the family an autographed picture as well as tickets to the show. In between that show and now Angel’s love for George never ceased. She watches “Pure Country” repeatedly with her parents, always smiling whenever she sees or hears good ole King George.

Angel has been a fan for years, and just a few weeks ago her dream came true. When George Strait blew through Oklahoma City Angel and her family were George’s invited personal guests to the show. The family got floor seats to the show and Angel got to go back stage and hang with her favorite singer. This was really a moment this family will never forget. Angel’s dad said,

They say good things come to those who wait, and Honestly I believe that is true, George Strait may not be touring anymore after 2014 but he is leaving the music industry just as he came into it a class act, a decent, honorable person, he and his management took a dream that was 7 years in the making and made it a reality for my Daughter Angel and for that my wife and I shall always be grateful.”

It is always great to hear touching stories like this and we appreciate this family sharing their story with us. We also have to give kudos to Mr. George Strait for his kind heart. The family likes referring to their special night as the night “A King met an Angel.”

Tina - That's great news! I think you and your sister have made a wise decision. Is she younger or older than you? Tell us about your house. Bedrooms? Size of house? Basement? garage? Yard size, etc? Anything you think is special that made you want to own it?

I have a condo on an upper floor of a large building. I love it and it comes with an underground parking space for myself and one for a guest. I'm a workaholic with unusual office hours at times. I'm at work now and waiting for input for a project with a deadline, so I don't need or want a detached house with yard at the moment.

Hey Kora, thanks! We too think this might be a wise investment! My sister is older then me, about 7 years. This house is not that big, it's 886 square feet. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, decent sized living room, newly renovated kitchen. Nice rec room. The basement is finished. So nothing to be done yet. Double attached garage. Since we both have a car, I said either double or nothing. So double it is. It's a bi-level. Laminate flooring upstairs except for the 2 bedrooms. It's on a corner lot. The lot is a nice size for in town. It's got a really nice raised deck, going out if the kitchen/dining room. It was built in 1982, so it's not that old yet.

So with all this comes furniture shopping and all that fun stuff! We picked out a washer and dryer. We haven't ordered it yet, but decided which one we want. We bought beds. And a used love seat. We decided to wait with a living room set till we get a great deal and a set we really like.

Ok, I think that about sums it up.

I read that George is currently in Nashville recording and finishing up his next album…..remember it was posted a couple weeks ago that George himself said at one of the concerts that he was going into the studio to finish the album.

we all know brokers, arenas and other outfits are more interested in money. It's about time to crack down on tickets gougers and brokers. We fans miss out. At least, the Houston Rodeo is doing something for their upcoming shows.

Rodeo Explains Thousands of Ticket Cancellations

The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo has cancelled several thousand tickets to this month's rodeo, including 800 to the March 17 George Strait concert that were going as high as $8,100, after they allegedly fell into the hands of ticket brokers. According to a report in the Houston Chronicle, the rodeo identified nine season-ticket holders acting as brokers after the electronic sale of some 5,600 tickets across the 21-day event set off internal alarms within its ticketing system.

Naturally, those going for Strait, whose show sold out almost instantly, raised more eyebrows than most. All orders have been canceled, said rodeo Chief Operating Officer Leroy Shafer, adding that buyers would be allowed to appeal: "We wait a few days to make sure we're not canceling a legitimate order." Those nine season-ticket holders or first-time buyers were denied their seats this year after being identified as brokers, he added.

Rocks Off reached out to Shafer via email for an explanation of why the brokers' actions, though not technically illegal, violated rodeo policy.

"It has been the policy of HLSR that we do not knowingly sell tickets to brokers or any type of ticket resellers who charge more that a service fee, such as Ticketmaster," he said.

"Though our screening methodology, we were able to identify them as brokers or they had wired around our procedures to purchase more than the allowed limit per person/entity," added Shafer.

Despite the Chronicle headline ("Rodeo reclaims 800 Strait tickets from brokers"), Shafer explained that the tickets were never "reclaimed." In fact, the orders were never even processed, printed or shipped, he said. However, he added that the rodeo follows a very strict procedure when it does find out that tickets have been shipped to a broker.

"HLSR does invalidate some issued tickets when it is determined they were shipped to a broker before the broker was identified by HLSR," Shafer said. "In such cases the barcodes are invalidated and the purchaser (the original purchaser) is notified of the action. In such cases, HLSR refunds the purchase price to the original purchaser."

Shafer said the cancelled tickets for all the performances except Strait will be filtered back into the system in the next few days. For Strait, he added, those seats will go to people on the rodeo's email list who had contacted them within the first three days of the show's selling out, as well as a few committee volunteers who were unable to originally purchase seats during the designated pre-sale.

The lesson here: Do not try to put one over on the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.
