Once again I am disappointed in George Strait's latest CD...like I was in the one before. I didn't think I would ever say that about George Strait! I don't like songs that have anything to do with drinking or bad words in them. Up until now...he was my very favorite singer. Now...it's Jim Reeves, Elton Britt,Slim Whitman and Eddy Arnold even though they have all passed on. I have always loved Elton Britt's yodeling from the first time I heard his "Chime Bells" years ago. That guy was amazing with his yodeling from the time he was around 15 years old or less. People in the business have said he could play guitar with the best of them. His father was a champion fiddler and one of his brothers played a fiddle.
P.S. I still like all of my older CD's I have of George Strait's...just not his last two. Sorry George! Hope the next ones are more to my liking.

Jane,
I'm surprised but I get it. In the past, I've loved artists who changed what it was I loved about their music and I moved on. Music is very personal and if it doesn't connect, it doesn't connect.
George's last two albums have been rawer rather than the classic troubadour we have all loved these many decades.
For me, it feels, especially on his new album, that he is embracing both sides of country music...Saturday night and Sunday morning. Sin and Heaven. When he sings of faith on it, I can feel the strength of his faith. When he sings of sin, it's with an acceptance that sin and faith are both laced together into the fabric of life.
Since George's newer music isn't your thing Jane, I'll be sure and stop by Elton's thread to say "howdy" now and again. : )

Startin' at the beginning with George's debut album "Strait Country" in 1981. The first song recorded and the first single...

I'm choosing the original recordings put up by the label to get all the components of how it began.
