Trisha Yearwood Lands a Cooking Show, Sets Sights on BroadwayBy: Nashville Kat tasteofcountry.com Jason Kempin, Getty Images Not only will best-selling cookbook author Trisha Yearwood have a new daytime cooking show premiering on the Food Network, she is also trying to fulfill a lifelong dream by starring on Broadway one day. While further details of her cooking show have yet to emerge, it’s a fair bet that the series will be shot in her huge Oklahoma kitchen, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see husband Garth Brooks drop by from time to time. As for her Broadway dreams, Yearwood admits she’d even transplant her family to New York City if given an opportunity to be in a production. “I’ve always loved Broadway shows,” Yearwood tells WENN. “I’ve always loved musical movies. I’ve seen several shows here [in New York City], and every time I see one I’m always in tears, like, ‘I want to be in that so bad.’ I saw ‘Wicked,’ like, three times.” “I don’t know what it is about it — I just love it. I did a little bit of theatre in college and I’ve always been drawn to it,” she says. “I don’t know what the role would be, but I would really love to do it.” Yearwood, who’s no stranger to acting, had a recurring role on the television series ‘JAG’ for a few years, and back in 2006, she got a standing ovation for her appearance at the annual ‘Broadway Meets Country’ concert in Nashville. In 2009, Brooks hinted that living in New York might be a possibility when his youngest graduated from high school, so that would put Yearwood’s potential Broadway debut some time in 2014. In the past, Brooks has said, “Ms. Yearwood has put aside her dreams of doing Broadway so we can raise our daughters in Oklahoma. I think it’s entirely possible that we will live in New York for a year or more so she can pursue what she wants to do.” Yearwood caught Reba McEntire when she was in ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ a few years ago and admits, “I wept. She was amazing and I felt like that role was made for her.” Not long ago, she said, “I’m at a place in my career where I can do some different things, so we’ll see what happens.”

Trisha Yearwood’s ‘Southern Kitchen’ Show Inspired by Family, Especially Her MomLarry Busacca, Getty Images By now, you may have heard that Trisha Yearwood is bringing her cooking talents to the Food Network for her new six-episode series, ‘Trisha’s Southern Kitchen.’ But what fans of the songstress-turned-chef might not realize is just how family-inspired Yearwood’s recipes really are. In an interview with the Tennesseean, Yearwood dished about filming the show, mentioning that the episodes were inspired by those close to her. One episode in particular features her father’s recipe for Brunswick Stew — the only meal her mother wanted to eat while undergoing treatment for cancer. “I learned to make it when my mom was sick,” Yearwood said. “When you’re going through chemo, very specific things sound good to you to eat, and you might love them every day for two weeks and then never want them again. Brunswick stew was one of those things she went through that she really wanted.” Before her mother got sick, Yearwood had never made the complicated recipe before. With a long ingredient list — including pork, beef and chicken — and nobody to teach her how to prepare the dish (sadly, her father passed away about six years ago), she was relieved to learn that she could make the stew to taste exactly like her dad’s. Another family-centric episode of ‘Trisha’s Southern Kitchen’ is called ‘Gwen’s Girls.’ Named after the singer’s mother, the episode features Yearwood and some of her friends preparing her mother’s favorite dishes. The segment focuses on cooking her mother’s favorite dishes in a healthy way. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Yearwood’s mother gave up meat and dairy — a challenge for the southern cook, who uses butter and milk in almost every recipe. Together, Yearwood and her friends fashioned a Chickless Pot Pie that is meat and dairy-free… and surprisingly completely delicious. If the six-episode series extends to a second season, the country music star plans to focus on making healthier southern comfort food. Tune in to the Food Network today (April 14) at 10:30AM ET to see the debut episode of ‘Trisha’s Southern Kitchen.’

Trisha Yearwood’s Learning to Smile in the Kitchen
Trisha Yearwood’s new cooking show, Trisha’s Southern Kitchen, which airs Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. ET/9:30 a.m. CT on Food Network, is bringing in great reviews. Despite her success with cookbooks in the past, Trisha tells NY Daily News she was unsure about doing a cooking show. “I was really apprehensive about it,” she said. “Standing behind a kitchen counter telling people about what ingredients to put in a pot didn’t feel right.”
The team at Food Network worked with Trisha to come up with a format she was more comfortable with. During her shows, she prepares home-style meals while visiting with family and friends. Even with her loved ones around, she still has a bit of trouble with one part of filming. “I’ve been in front of the camera for 20 years,” she said. “They keep saying ‘smile.’ I don’t smile when I’m alone in the kitchen.”
The six episode series was filmed in Nashville. On the show, Trisha makes comfort food dishes that aren’t necessarily low in calories. She does offer tips on how to lighten them up however. “You shouldn’t have to put a disclaimer on to say you shouldn’t eat fried chicken every day,” she said. “People should know that.”
Even with the stream of family and friends on her show, there is one family member who doesn’t make an appearance – her husband, superstar Garth Brooks. They make it a point to keep their work separate, but they do watch the show together. “It was cool, it was really cool to see him laugh, to see him tear up and enjoy it,” she said.
While Trisha loves to cook, music is still her top priority. While she awaits to hear if there will be a season two of Trisha’s Southern Cooking, she’s working on a new album. “Music is my No. 1 passion,” she said. “If you made me choose between music and food, it’s definitely music.”
At this point in Trisha’s career, the most important thing is doing what she loves. “It’s wonderful to be in a place where you and pick and choose the things that make you happy,” she said. “I’m 47, You learn life is short and it’s not worth doing something if you don’t enjoy it.”

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood Planning Album, Tour Together
By Billy Dukes tasteofcountry.com August 23, 2013
Trisha Yearwood says she and Garth Brooks have plans to begin work on an album that’s been talked about for almost as long as they’ve been married. In addition to that, the singer and her husband have plans for a joint tour.
The 48-year-old Yearwood was on ‘CBS This Morning‘ this week. The interview focused mostly on her cooking and how she changed her diet to drop 35 pounds earlier this year.
Additionally, Yearwood says she’s working on a solo album and is collaborating with Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson on a song for an upcoming Clarkson project.
Brooks had previously vowed to stay off the road until his youngest daughter graduated high school. That’s planned for next spring. Yearwood says she and her husband are going to tour together, but gave no details about when or where.
“This will be our third go-around,” she spills. “But it’ll be a whole different ball game, you know, as man and wife to go do this together. So I’m looking forward to it.”
The Oklahoman is one of several outlets reporting that interviewer Jeff Glor followed up, asking if she also meant they’d record an album together. “That is part of the plan,” Yearwood says. That clip is not in the video or transcript currently on CBS’ website.
In July, Yearwood and Brooks shared a stage at the Oklahoma Twister Relief concert in Norman, Okla.
