The car we had until just recently was a 2001. It wasn't worth a new transmission.

Hanging out with Hank Williams III

I love Hank Jr.'s old music, but I haven't cared for much of the new music he's done in the past 20 years. Mostly he just keeps cutting his old songs over and over again and I don't see any point in it. Hank III is probably good when he tries to be country, but his attitude turns me off. He was blasting Shooter Jennings for trying to look and sound like Waylon. when III is pretty much doing the same thing with his own grandfather. I don't like much of mainstream country anymore, but its that kind of attitude that keeps from getting into a lot of Americana and alt country artists. These chip-on-the-shoulder singers don't represent me. Just make music you believe in and quit trashing others.

Miranda,
That's why I just follow individual artists these days instead of a genre. I can't tell you how many times I've liked a song and then went to listen to the artist a bit more only to find out they had the whole someone-else-has-cooties thing going on. Americana seems to be particularly thick with the sentiment.
Decades ago someone told me that I wasn't a whiner...that I was a bi***er....and I'm sure that's true. It was a friend who pointed it out. I would have preferred the word "griper" but it really is the same thing. : )
I think I heard my parents say "if your going to whine, we'll give you something to whine about" a million or so times growing up. Then they'd put me to work doing something because if I had the energy to whine I'd dang well better be using that energy to do something productive.
So the whining thing, that's never going to work for me. Griping along the way, as you keep doing your thing, and putting that energy to doing something productive...I can hang with that. Griping is blowing off steam. Whining is expecting someone else to fix the world so you get what you want...IMHO.

Well these Americana artists actively choose this path, then they turn around and condemn Taylor Swift (for example) because she is making money. But yet they claim to be against money according to their socialist beliefs. I just think most of them are a bunch of bitter hypocrites who do not want anyone to have anything they do not have themselves IMO

Coming from the redneck, working poor background that I do, I've never understood why people act like money is the "great evil". There's a whole heckuva lot of worse things in life than being able to pay the electric bill and actually buying groceries every week. It's so nice to get in the car and know you will very likely get to wherever your going rather than taking all the side streets and praying, praying, praying this won't be the day you get stranded along the way.
Money isn't evil.

It's not unless it completely takes over your life and morals.

Miranda,
So I take it your not a fan of the corporate theft should never be mentioned because thieves wouldn't feel welcome and accepted?

I know a man who is locked up in federal prison tonight largely because he became consumed by greed. Greed is what's evil, not money.

Did I read here that someone had cooties...I thought that they were wiped out in the 70's.
I saw some kids with them...I even got them myself a time or two.
They never seemed to bother me...I never even knew I had them.
I suppose that when you start a new school or job or whatever...
People are still very leery to this day...if you have cooties or not.

I was just catching up on all of your recent posts, and Miranda, I think a lot of singers are jealous of Taylor. She's making piles of money and having tremendous success, first in country and now in pop/rock/?, and many resent it. I don't know if you watch award shows, but I tape them and ff, mostly ff. LOL! When they call her name for an award, some clap politely, but the expressions on a few of the faces are interesting, and, to me, not happy ones. LOL! of course, there are those who are happy for her.
Nash could probably comment on this better than I.

Kora, I agree. I think a lot of people are incredibly jealous of Taylor. I personally don't think Taylor Swift is all that bad.I like a lot of her music though I haven't checked out any of her "official" pop music. There are certainly people who are a lot worse, if you ask me.
