Miranda,
....or so it can seem anyway. In the longer view of things, life catches up with everyone. While hubby was drinking, I was doing to my best to keep us afloat and didn't have the energy for the other emotions. It was only after he'd been sober awhile that I realized how angry I was. Then came the time frame where I had to go through all the suppressed emotions.
Anger, loss, disillusionment....it catches up to everyone. Sometimes the deeper it is, the longer it takes to blindside you and people may never see it. It still exists just not in the public view of things and maybe not in the same time frame for different people.

I've posted about this on the In the News thread but it was awhile back and I'm sure it's buried in there somewhere. Let's just do the brief recap here..... For quite a while now the Mayor of Houston has been Anise Parker. She's been an okay Mayor with a big focus on making badly needed repairs on roads. There was a big deal when she was elected because she was the first lesbian mayor of a major city. Things took a weird turn last year after Parker and the City Counsel passed HERO ...Houston Equal Rights Ordinance. It wasn't put on the ballot and there were churches who organized to have it be a ballot measure. The churches gathered massive amounts of signatures and they believed it would be put on the ballot. The city attorney, working for Parker, went through and claimed that there weren't enough valid signatures because of notary issues. The churches sued and Parker responded by issues subpoena's against the organizing churches and pastors. Here's a link to the those subpoena's....it's a PDF www.adfmedia.org/files/WoodfillSubpoenaRequest.pdfBasically, what the subpeona's say is that the churches and pastors had to turn over to the government all communications, including their sermons, their emails, all correspondence...everything they had or everything they'd said. I'll add that some of these were black churches. Needless to say, the churches rallied and a group of ministers from across the country had a meeting with Parker and convinced her it wasn't in her best interest to subpeona churches and she withdrew the subpeonas. The city attorney has since resigned. The petitions and ballot issue had a trial a month or so ago with the end result of the Judge in the case now pouring over tons of signatures to count each one individually for authenticity. When the Judge is done with that, we'll hear whether or not HERO will be placed on the ballot in Houston. In the meantime, it's been suspended, pending the outcome. I'm adding this in because it's part of what I've been posting about with the over reach of government into religion. And because I don't believe that it's only a piece of paper...if it was just a piece of paper, churches and ministers wouldn't have been subpeona'd to turn over their sermons, emails and all communications to the government. They violated no laws. They filed a lawsuit for an issue to be placed on the ballot...that's their "crime"....wanting the public to vote.

As I posted earlier on this thread, I didn't realize that Brandy Clark was gay but if you love, love, love great songwriting and are a neotrad or trad country fan give Brandy a listen. She's so good and one heckuva songwriter.
I included this video for Kacey because she and Brandy co-wrote it. Kacey had a hit with it. If LBT's belief is that there needs to be a conversation, it's already happened and in a way that didn't get people all up in arms. In a way that sings of individual choice, freedom and following your own arrow. It's a message I truly love.

She's had a lot of success as a songwriter before this album though....including (but not limited to) Things a Mama Don't Know sung by Mica Roberts Mama's Broken Heart sung by Miranda Lambert Crazy Women sung by LeAnn Rimes Better Dig Two sung by The Band Perry It Is What It Is - sung and co-written by Kacey Musgraves ....and a whole bunch more songs for a bunch of folks...Reba, Darius, Craig Campbell, Gretchen Wilson, Sarah Darling, David Nail, JoAnna Smith, Keith Urban, Sheryl Crow, Sunny Sweeney, Ray Scott, Toby Keith..and some others. She was nominated for best new artist at the 2015 Grammy's.

The A at the end is for ALLY...
Ally – A person who does not identify as LGBTQIA, but supports the rights and safety of those who do.

Brandy Clark wrote Drunk Americans single for Toby Keith. Which was released last fall and still no news of a new album yet. I'm puzzled as to why I cannot find any updates on the album, even though it had already been named 35 MPH Town. A date was set for March 3 and the album never came out. Makes me wonder if the album has been scrapped.

Nashville is missing the boat here...catering to a few...when this gal could bring in more fans...or should I say money. They blackballed Katrina Elam when she spoke out...Cyndi Thompson was another...any female that goes against the grain. Country music should represent all faces of this country...to slam the door on folks who are not deemed right IS not right. I dunno...it just seems wrong to be mean...and that's how the whole subject feels to me.

I mean, I wonder if Toby Keith's album (which includes Brandy Clark's song) has been scrapped. I haven't really followed Brandy and I don't know if she has an upcoming album.

Miranda,
I've been wondering about Toby's album and what happened to it too.
Brandy's first album was released toward the end of 2013. Her real passion is songwriting and it took her a long time to decide to do a record of her own. She's on an independent label.
Singer songwriters are a personal favorite of mine and Brandy is doing well. She opened for Jennifer Nettles and Dwight Yoakam sang one of her songs with her on the Grammy's.
She reminds me of Roy (Ryan) but I think that's geography and how they are both who they are. Like Roy, Brandy grew up in a small logging town in Washington state.

Michael,
Did I miss something?
I really liked Katrina Elam but she got into a fight with her label about what direction her music would go and she lost. She did have another big opportunity after that thought with the movie Pure Country 2...she had the lead in it....but the movie was pretty much a bust.
All I know about Cyndi is that she had early success and then decided to quit the business for quite a while and then came back with an EP a few years ago. I bought the EP but it was in a different style than her earlier music and it was kinda forgettable. Her earlier stuff ---completely awesome.

Michael,
Devil worshipers creep me out big time. It used to be a thing when I lived in Topeka where the zip code is 666. A neighbor of mine worked as an aide at the state hospital for the physically disabled and several of her coworkers were devil worshippers. I didn't like to be around them...they gave me a creepy feeling.
Like the house that my old roommate wanted to buy and live in. I went there to look at it with him and it was an okay house but I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. It had belonged to this guy's parents and after they'd passed, he'd come back home with a bunch of people and they all lived there together until it was taken for back taxes. Then they all just left and went...somewhere. There were random discarded bags of clothes and stuff around but the creepy thing were all the Id's. So many people's driver's licenses and the pentagram and the creepy picture of Jesus painted on the bathroom door....I told Steve I would never live there...didn't matter what a bargain it was.
Devil worshippers give me the serious creeps.

I know Drunk Americans single didn't do very well on the charts. None of Toby's songs have done very well on the charts over the past several years though.
