Latest News FOLKS LIKE US Available June 9th!
Created on Tuesday, 07 April 2015 14:40 Montgomery Gentry, has been hard at work in the studio with producer Michael Knox (Jason Aldean, Thomas Rhett), putting the finishing touches on their first new record in over three years. FOLKS LIKE US, the new album from Montgomery Gentry, will release June 9th. “Listening back through our older albums, I can definitely hear some growth and maturity in the new music, but Folks Like Us still feels like a Montgomery Gentry record,” shares Troy Gentry. “There are probably a few more introspective moments on the album, and front to back, this might just be our strongest record yet.” Later this month country websites Taste of Country and The Boot will exclusively preview the album tracks to give fans a first listen. The single, "Folks Like Us," is now available for purchase on iTunes.
Folks Like Us

I can't open these videos up right now because I am at work. I knew Montgomery Gentry was still around, but I haven't liked anything I've heard from them in recent years. I guess what I meant was, I miss the way they used to sound. LOL
I noticed that one of the songs on the new album track listing is a collaboration with Black Stone Cherry. I think they are a rock band - a harder form of southern rock than Blackberry Smoke, maybe. I personally have not listened to them, but a lot of people around here like them. One of the group members has a connection to the Kentucky Headhunters. They are from somewhere in Kentucky, but I'm not sure where. Of course, Montgomery Gentry is too (as you probably already know).

Troy and Eddie have had some rough years and it's taken a toll on them. I wasn't a fan of their last album. I'm more familiar with Texas music than Kentucky groups. But let's go with some of what I've liked in the past.

I finally opened those videos. If that is what their new album sounds like, then I don't want it. I loved their first three albums, and a few songs on their fourth album. After that I never bought anything else from them again even though they used to be one of my favorite groups. I loved how they were real country, but they were sort of, I don't know, hard country? They were country's, but they also rocked and they gave it to you straight. Kind of like Waylon Jennings.
i saw one of the local news channels that Eddie Montgomery was in major financial trouble. He opened a restaurant around Lexington somewhere and then sometime time after that found out he had cancer. His wife divorced him and took him for everything he had. His brother John Michael Montomgery was arrested a few years back in Lexington for DUI. Apparently he has a bad alcohol problem. I haven't heard anything from him in forever. I don't know if Troy Gentry has also fallen on hardship along with Montgomery brothers or not.

Troy had some legal problems from that hunting thing a few years ago. He had sent the ...I think it was deer...meat from his kill through the mail and he got into all kinds of trouble for it.
I knew John had a drinking problem. He had a song about it on ...I think it was his last album but maybe it's just the last one I have of his. He also talks about rehab in interviews.
Here's "Drunkard's Prayer"
I knew about Eddie's cancer and his wife leaving him right after he was diagnosed. She said that people didn't know everything there was to know.
They've had some hard times.

Eddie is millions of dollars in debt. It was on the local TV stations here after his restaurant shut down. I cant remember if he declared bankruptcy or not.
On a side note, my dad was working road construction in Lexington when Montgomery Gentry shot their "My Town" video there. His crew was asked if they wanted to appear in the video, but they but couldn't leave their jobs. LOL

Miranda,
That would have been so much fun for them to be in the "My Town" video. Such a great song. : )

Speaking of groups that we miss, does SheDaisy even record or perform anymore? Or are they done?

According to SheDaisy's wiki page:
SHeDAISY has recorded a fifth studio album, A Story to Tell, which was produced by Jann Arden. Previews of two new songs, "A 2 Me" and "Mr. McLennen", are available on their official website. The title of the album is derived from lyrics in "Mr. McLennen". On March 9, 2010, it was announced that SHeDAISY had left Lyric Street Records.
...but it's not listed on their discography wiki page. I can't find where the CD was ever released.
