I haven't listened to mainstream country for a couple or three years and I don't know most of the music being played now. I've been hearing the name Sam Hunt all over the place now. I guess he's the "next big thing". This week I finally got around to listening to his album on youtube. Here's a link for that. www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXi6IHFHeIA&list=PLGofG5OXeKs-237mqawbP7B8HlwIsNZ4JI did the link this way instead of an insert because it'll continue playing the whole album if you do it from youtube. As I was listening along, I thought, well, this definitely isn't my version of Hoedown music but then again, I'm not Sam's demographic audience. Still, my mind starting thinking, what do they call his music? We've all heard the term "Bro Country" all over the place and some of this music fits there but I keep reading that this is "new" and an "evolution" ...so which of the silly variations of the word "Hoedown" that I've included as poll options here do you like best for Sam's music? ...and if you have other options, feel free to add them....we all know I'm just throwing these out off the top of my head. You can choose up to three answers in the poll...for clarification...I have Swift Down in the poll because many of Sam's songs talk about his ex and how she played him. We all know I like the lovely Miss Swift. : )

Jo - I hadn't heard of him, either. I listened to the link, and he's ok, but I don't feel anything special. So, for me, it's No Down.

oooh that's a good one Kora. Should have thought of No Down.
I can't say I'm going to be a fan either. I went ahead and read an article about him and he was football player. Then he became a songwriter. Now he's singing and writing songs. He says he's on his way to going into politics.
For me personally, he seems more hype than substance. Kind of like, I'll do these things to get my name out there and to increase my visibility. In the article I read he did say he didn't want to be associated with a genre of music so I expect he'll go wherever he chooses to go, doing whatever it is he chooses to do.
Which is why I went with Blow Down. He blew in with the wind. He'll likely blow somewhere else with the next wind.

From what little I read, Sam says that because he is originally from a small town, any music that he might choose to make is "country". Apparently, his fans adamantly debate that he is "country" but, on the other hand, he doesn't see why he should be tied to a "genre". He doesn't like labels.
His wiki page says he cites his musical influences as Billy Currington, Usher, K-Ci and JoJo, R Kelly, Ginuwine, and Conway Twitty.
Listening to his music this week though, I thought, wow...who IS the mainstream audience these days? Because this guy is all about the girl "playa" who he used to date. Reminded me of the Jerry Springer show.
oooohhhh, you know who we need here....let me hunt up the clip

This is the first I've ever heard anything from Sam Hunt. I listened to the first 30 seconds and the music reminds me of the background music played during "serious" scenes on the Kardashians show. I'm not impressed,

Guess I'll label him as MoTown Down...
It is certainly a path that I choose not to follow.
A pretty path nonetheless...not for me.

I liked him until the Keith Urban comments. Tacky. I went and googled to see what context Sam made the comment. Here's a link: bigfrog104.com/was-keth-urbans-cop-car-stolen/The story came from this tweet Sam made Sam Hunt ✔ @samhuntmusic Follow I worked hard on "Cop Car." Everything I poured into that song was stolen from me. I unfortunately can't celebrate it being on the Grammys 12:30 PM - 27 Jan 2014 ....love the Keith t-shirt picture Kim.

^^^My videos are not posting! What were you trying to post? or who were you trying to post? Maybe it's my age but I still like music I can sing along with....even though I can't carry a tune. Don't know how you'd sing along with Sam, he's mostly talking with a little singing. Maybe we should add another one...Talk Down.
