Hi country music fans, and welcome to my new thread!!! For a few weeks I have been making a country chart in which points are given based on sales, monitored airplay, radio station playlists, popularity, internet performance, personal charts, and past chart performance. I have been a country music fan since the 1980's and I really miss the Hot 100 Country Singles chart from that era, so that is how I have based my chart. (Songs actually move down the chart. They are not removed at or near peak.) Well here it is my first posted chart. Please let me know what you think. Red titles lost points from last week.

Hi SuperDave and welcome to the board. I grew up on country music and have loved it all my life. A few years ago I quit paying attention to what was current and now I just follow my favorites. I do gave a lot of favorites, once in a while I'll add in some new artists I stumble across and really like. From your list, keeping in mind that I'm no longer familiar with a lot of newer artists, I really like Cam, Burning House Jana Kramer, I Got The Boy Luke with Karen, Home Alone Tonight George Strait, Cold Beer Conversation Mo Pitney, A Boy and A Girl Thing Luke, Strip It Down Scotty, Southern Belle Joe, Freaks Like Me Toby, Beautiful Stranger Aaron, Getaway Truck I do really enjoy reading your chart. I hope you continue to update it.

youeverknow,
Thank you for your reply. I am glad you enjoyed my chart. I too am a fan of traditional country and a lot of your favorites are also favorites of mine. Sure, I like some of the new sound (Old Dominion, Sam Hunt, etc.), but my heart is in the traditional sound. I also enjoy Cole Swindell, Randy Houser, and Tyler Farr. They tend to bounce back and forth between traditional and modern country. As for updating the chart, I plan on updating every week, at least until spring. Spring and summer are usually very busy for me and I may not have time to update every week, but I will try to.

That's awesome SuperDave. I look forward to seeing what's happening on your chart. I have a deep and abiding love of fiddles so I tend to follow the fiddles. But then I also had a deep and abiding love of great lyrics....and farmers. Basically, I just do my own thing and expect that other folks will do their own thing. At this time of year, a lot of people start thinking about warm weather and summer again. Since we live in Houston, it's pretty nice here this time of year. The leaves are really falling off the trees now. On the new artists, I think Mo Pitney is gonna be a lifelong keeper for me. Jolene

This is a pretty slow week on the charts due to the Christmas holidays. Holly Spears has the only debut of the week with "Who Said" coming on at no. 100. Luke Bryan and Karen Fairchild continue to burn up the charts as "Home Alone Tonight" once again has the biggest point gain, picking up 6002 points. "You Should Be Here", Cole Swindell's powerful tribute to his late father is the biggest mover up the charts, moving 15 positions from 69 to 54. Red titles lost points from last week.

It's looks like Cam is going to peak at #2 rather than making it to #1 with "Burning House". I got the album for Christmas but haven't had time to listen to it yet. Mostly I get music for Christmas and it takes a while for me to listen and appreciate it all.
I sure wish Mo would break into the top 40 with "A Boy and a Girl Thing". It's just hard for the trad artists to get to the top of the charts. Though he's got some good backing ...he's already written with Bill Anderson. His sister is really talented too.
I've been disappointed with Rainey Quailey's album so I'm not surprised she's not going up the charts. I really like her mom and always watch Cedar Cove. Maybe Rainey will cross over into acting if music isn't a success for her.
I really do enjoy reading your chart. I like numbers and watching trends.
I see Carrie Underwood is right on schedule with one song already peaked and descending and her next one on it's way up to replace it.
Which songs are your favorites on the chart this week?

Yeah, I think you are right. Cam has probably peaked at #2. She lost ground this week on Mediabase and on both Billboard Airplay and Indicator charts.
I too would love to see Mo Pitney get more airplay. He is one of the best new singers, but based on what radio will play nowadays I doubt he will ever make it very big (unless he goes mainstream, which I hope he does not do.) Country music needs more like him. Have you heard William Michael Morgan's version of "I Met A Girl"? Although it was co-written by Sam Hunt and Trevor Rosen (of Old Dominion) Morgan does a good traditional take on it. I like some of Sam Hunt's songs, but I do not like his version of this one.
Some of my favorites include Mo Pitney - A Boy & A Girl Thing William Michael Morgan - I Met A Girl George Strait - Cold Beer Conversation Cole Swindell - You Should Be Here Michael Ray - Real Men Love Jesus Dylan Scott - Crazy Over Me Jana Kramer - I Got The Boy Maddie And Tae - Shut Up And Fish Chris Stapleton - Nobody To Blame
... and on the more mainstream, pop oriented side I like Locash - I Love This Life Sam Hunt - Break Up In A Small Town Old Dominion - Break Up With Him & Snapback

I hadn't heard WMM's "I Met a Girl" but just went and watched the video on youtube. I'll be keeping an eye out for more of his songs now that I've heard of him. I love his voice, his style and his cowboy hat. I'd just as soon Mo stay exactly as he is rather than trying to be what he's not for more commercial success. King George has been my favorite since "Amarillo by Morning" was new. I still think he does everything just right. I just love Jana. She hasn't done a single song on any of her albums that I don't just love. Watching her in concert clips online and in interviews, she's just exactly right too. I got Maddie and Tae's album for Christmas but haven't listened to it yet. Maddie is from Sugar Land, Texas, which is the suburb of Houston we live in. So is Katie Armiger. Ironically, the group Sugarland were named after our 'burb but aren't from here. They were just looking for a name and Kristen had a friend from here and suggested it. Early on they played on the Courthouse steps and I think it was the first time they'd been here. They have a song titled "Sugarland" which references a lot of small town Texas things which in no way represents Sugar Land at all. Not even the corn fields...obviously we live in sugar and cotton country (we're named after Imperial Sugar, it was a factory town). Some of the others you've listed I haven't even heard...but I'll do a bit of catching up soon.

Thomas Rhett's "Die A Happy Man" continues to dominate the chart as he picks up a couple of thousand points and holds onto the #1 spot for a third week. Carrie Underwood has the top point gain with "Heartbeat" picking up 6870 points, and Cole Swindell continues his fast climb up the chart as "You Should Be Here" is once again the biggest upward mover, moving 10 spots from 54 to 44. Of this week's two new songs, Rachele Lynae's #Quicksand" debuts the highest at #92. Red titles lost points from last week.

This week I'm pulling for Cole's "You Should Be Here". Since you posted the list all nice and handy, I took the opportunity to watch videos for a bunch of songs on the list. I posted a bunch of them on the radio thread. It was really nice to listen to new music. Thanks Dave.

Still no change at the top as Thomas Rhett holds onto the #1 spot for a 4th week. Cole Swindell's "You Should Be Here" is without a doubt the hottest song this week. It picks up the most points this week with 8098 and for the 3rd week in a row it is the fastest rising song moving 8 spots from 44 to 36. (Drake White also moved 8 spots from 73 to 65, but in the case of a tie the award goes to the higher ranked song.) 8 songs debut this week, with Maren Morris's "My Church" debuting highest at 87. Although not officially released as a single, Chris Stapleton's "Tennessee Whiskey" still received enough points to make the chart. Red titles lost points from last week.

Dave,
I was just reading about Maren this morning in the new Edition of Texas Music magazine. She's off to a good start.
I've always loved "Tennessee Whiskey". It's great to see it make it's way again. Dean Dillon is one heckuva songwriter. I think I'll always prefer the DAC version since it's the one I've had all these years. I prefer it to George Jones cover too.
Boy, nothing is moving at the top of the chart except Tim starting to fall back a bit. I'd love to see Jana move up some more but it's more likely Jason Aldean will.
King George sure isn't getting the AirPlay he did before he retired from touring.
Shoot Mo continues to lose ground and with such a cute song.
I love Lady A and I love Charles as a solo artist.
I love Luke's "Strip It Down" and I'm sorry to see it go...maybe it'll become a recurrent.
Looks like it's the last week for Rainey.
Who are you pulling for this week to gain?

Maren made some huge gains at Billboard and Mediabase this week. I think she has a very good chance at making it big.
Some Of My favorites that are gaining points include Randy Houser, Maddie & Tae, Dylan Scott, William Michael Morgan, Chris Stapleton's "Nobody To Blame", Cole Swindell's "You Should Be Here", Sam Hunt, Aaron Watson, & Old Dominion's "Snapback."
It is sad that radio won't play more of the traditional artist like Mo Pitney, and George Strait, but with the widespread acceptance of Chris Stapleton maybe traditional Country has a chance of making a comeback.
Thomas Rhett seems to be losing a little steam at the top, but so does LoCash at no. 2. I expect Thomas to remain at no.1 at least one more week. Jason Aldean also seems to be slowing down some. Sam Hunt might be the next no.1. Jana Kramer continues to make some good gains. She might go to the top if Sam Hunt or Luke Bryan doesn't keep her from it.
Hopefully I'll have the new chart up tomorrow or Saturday. I'm still working on it.

Thomas Rhett did it again, topping the chart for a 5th straight week, and the entire month of January. Carrie Underwood just barely beat out Cole Swindell for the greatest points gain, and Maren Morris races up the chart with "My Church" moving 28 spots from 87 to 59 to be this week's fastest rising song. Jennifer Nettles has this week's highest debut, with "Unlove You" coming in at #81. Red titles lost points from last week.

I just absolutely love everything Brandy Clark writes. Glad to see Jennifer is using one of her songs as her new single.
So Jana stayed the same. Jason lost ground. Luke and Karen gained ground. Sam inched up. Carrie really gained. Tim looks like he topped at #10. Blake sure lost ground on his new single. I've been wondering if radio would choose him or Miranda.
I'm glad to see Trace do another trad song. Don't know if it'll do well for him but who can say. Nostalgia has it's place.
