That is so sad! I am so happy my hubby and I got to see him a couple of years ago at his Austin City Limits show. He was definitely one of our favorites! RIP Merle Haggard! He will certainly be missed!

This is the first time that I know of someone going forward on their own birthday! I love to hear him sing "Pancho & Lefty" with the red headed stranger! For Merle to go now most definitely stands out for me because his son, Ben, actually placed his stamp of approval on a message that I left for the ACM award show powers that be this past Sunday night over at the Twitter website. I ordered them to learn how to remember our legends because during the show they didn't acknowledge any of the ones in country music that went forward this past year. May Merle's passing make them realize how important it really is to never forget those who paved the road the stars of today are walking on.
God bless you and Merle's family and the remainder of our legends always!!!
Holly

Holly - Martina McBride and Darius Rucker did honor Joey Feek but she was the only one remembered

^^^ I know and no disrespect intended towards her of course, but she was not a legend. Jim Ed Brown and Lynn Anderson also went forward within the last 12 months and not one word was said about them.
God bless you and their families and Joey's family always!!!
Holly
P.S. How can new fans of country know about the music's history if nothing is ever said about it?

This has made me a bit misty. Merle was a long a favorite...saw him several times. SiriusXM channel 59 "Willie's Roadhouse" has gone full tribute...great stories & songs.

I love some of Merle's classic songs. A favourite of mine was "Grandma Hard", a truly beautiful song about his gran! He had the voice that carried so much emotion in thopse songs, too.
