George Strait (what happened to his thread in Traditional Country?) It's GONE!I was going to post an article that his longtime drummer(over 30 years) was killed in a car wreck in Tennessee.

Oh my goodness Jolene! It's so good to see you here again! I have missed you! This place has been so dead. I come quite often hoping things have livened up and leave with a sad feeling.
My grandson called the other day and gave me some good news. I am going to be a great- grandmother again! He and his wife have 2 girls and a boy and he's hoping he will get another boy.
Hope everything is going well with you and your family.
I guess I haven't posted in George's thread in so long that I forgot where he was. I've been posting mainly in Jim Reeves and Elton Britt. I always thought George Strait should have been in Traditional.

Congratulations Jane. Another baby is awesome, awesome, wonderful news.
Everything is good here.
...and I finally decided that my faulty computer speakers could easily be bypassed with an external pair of speakers. They just came in the mail today so now I actually have sound on my computer again. Music here I come.

....and George is as Texas as Texas can be.
I've always thought that Kim set up the boards classifications according to which artists were currently getting airplay. Since George has been a bedrock staple of airplay for so many years, he remained part of the current artists boards.
I could be wrong though. That's just how it always seemed to me.

Jolene, so happy everything is good with you and that you can now play music again on your computer. I have a desktop, a laptop and a Kindle Fire HD and they are all getting as slow as a turtle!
Since George Strait isn't putting out any new music I'm getting more into Jim Reeves and Elton Britt. I use to be a huge Eddy Arnold fan and I still like his early stuff, but in his later years he wasn't getting much or any airplay and he kind of went too POP for me. I'm discovering so much great Elton Britt music that I enjoy playing now....along with my Jim Reeves.
Oh! And you may be right about why Kim put George Strait where she did. I hadn't even thought about that.
Hope to see you on here more often!

Jane,
My hubby has a Kindle Fire and he loves it. I’m still hanging out with my older Kindle because I just use it to read books anyway.
I do love my IPad. Though I am a touch annoyed with it this minute since it decided to update my IOS this afternoon and now wants me to enter passwords everywhere I wander. Good thing I have my little black passwords book. 🌹
I listen to a lot of old style music myself. I haven’t listened to mainstream radio in several years. I’m sure there’s some music on there I would like but with the changes of the last five years, it’s just not worth it for me anymore.
Since we live in Texas, it’s not really a problem. So much great Texas country music all around us.
Son and I went to see Aaron Watson and Gary Allan in concert last month. So much music. They had an opening act that started at 7 and played over an hour. Then Aaron came second and played a full concert. Gary was third and he began around 10pm and ended around 11:30 pm. It was the day that Aaron’s new live at the Houston rodeo cd came out so there was lots of energy.
Just got the new Loretta Lynn studio album today. I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet.

Jolene, my Kindle Fire is almost 5 1/2 years old. I use it a lot because it's light and portable. I like it, but at times I don't. There are some things I can't do on it.
You are right about living in Texas we still get some good ole country music. We have a radio station in Austin that my hubby listens to that plays a lot of COUNTRY music and they still play George Strait.

Jane, May God continues to bless Texas and Texas Country Music. My hubby had one of the original big Kindles forever and a day and loved it. I swear that thing weighs about four pounds. As electronics go, it was an artifact. Last year he decided to take over the Sunday school class he goes to when the teacher they had moved out of state. Instead of using the church Bibles, he started carrying his Kindle to church (it's about a mile walk and he likes to stroll to church). So for Christmas last year, I bought him the small Kindle fire so it would fit in his coat pocket as he walked along to church. Now he just thinks it's the cat's meow. Jolene

Jolene, what's the size of the smaller Kindle you got for your hubby? I'll have to check it out if they still have them. Are they the same price as the larger ones? The smaller size would be great to carry in my handbag. Also, exactly what all can you do on that size?

Jane,
I got hubby the Kindle Fire HD 8 tablet. It’s about 5 by 8 inches and weighs 13 oz. I just looked it up on the Amazon website and it’s still available. With special offers it’s $79.99. The special offers on Amazon devices just means it will have an advertisement on the screen when you turn it on. After you get the device, you can deactivate that ad by paying something like $20 if you want. Then it is permanently deactivated. Hubby never bothers on his devices. I always turn my ads off.
His Fire does pretty much what any tablet would do. Surf the Internet, etc. It is a handy little thing.
The older black and white reading only Kindles have the advantage of being less fatiguing on your eyes if you read for longer period of time. Since I’ve always been blind as a bat ....with great glasses which help me see wonderfully, eye strain is something I consider but that’s just me.
