I don't know if this will post or not. It's a video of what I think is an unusual Country singer.
Edited to say that the trumpet player on this is the famous Danny Davis. I love this and have listened to it so many times. I think it's beautiful!

In My Land
Published on Jun 6, 2008 (Youtube.com)
"In My Land" There has never been a song of this subject so powerful and strong, so well done in both lyric, melody, and video. It was shot in various parts of the country, and a big part in Texas. The song is used in opening ceremonies in the Mounted Shooter's State and National competitions and other gatherings as well. The video is shown on enormous screens at events, and RWK himself has ridden a horse around the arena to a standing crowd with hat in hand as the video plays. The estimated views of this video both live event and video channels is well over a million people.
The video is all about freedom, the country and the rights of the people. It is a statement of freedom from an everyday born free American.

Jane,
This song made me think of the wagon train trails which ran through Kansas (where hubby and I are originally from). The Oregon Trail, the Santa Fe Trail, the Mormon Trail, the Chisholm Trail and others all did. In a lot of places you can still see the old wagon tracks. I can only imagine how deep those ruts were in the day.
Then, of course, both branches of the Chisholm Trail ended/began in Kansas for the cattle drives from Texas. I grew up a half hour away from Abilene, Kansas and about an hour and a half from Ellsworth.
It might be one of the reasons why I've always loved the "western" part of country and western music so much. : )

Jolene, I can see why you said what you did about the song "On The Border".
I had heard about Royal Wade Kimes for years, but wasn't until recently that I looked him up. He sings a really different type of songs. It's said that he comes from a string of outlaw families, but they say HE is a very nice guy. I haven't researched it yet, but I wondered if he's been in Western movies. He would probably be good in them.

Jane, I googled for info on the Judge in the song. I didn’t realize he was the Judge featured in the True Grit movies. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_ParkerIt would be interesting to know more about Royal’s family.
