Bucky Covington Takes His 'Hometown' on the RoadApr 22nd 2011 by Gayle Richardson theboot.com Rick Diamond, Getty Images Bucky Covington may "hope heaven's a lot like" his hometown, but he's also go high hopes for yours. The North Carolina native kicked off his Hometown tour in March and is scheduled to play more than 30 shows across the country before October. While most artists are vying for the big venues in major cities, growing up in Rockingham made Bucky appreciate those who played smaller towns. "You'd have to go out of town to experience anything like a live concert," he recalls to the Augusta Chronicle about growing up in a rural area. "The idea of this tour is to go to places like that, outside of big cities." The former 'American Idol' contestant is looking forward to playing songs from his upcoming album, 'I'm Alright,' which will be released later this year. The new project will include "some party songs, some sexy songs and some rocking songs," according to Bucky, as well as four self-penned tunes. Bucky began in the rock scene before switching to country music, and his live shows certainly reflect that, seamlessly blending the two genres. "I liked the energy of a rock show, but I didn't understand what the lyrics were saying," he explains. "With country music, it was just more natural. I bring some of that energy of a rock show onto the stage." The tour supports Bucky's current single, 'Hometown,' which can be found on his self-titled debut. The next stop is tonight (April 22) in Augusta, Ga.

Bucky Covington Gives Advice to Scotty McCreery, Other ‘American Idol’ ContestantsBy: Billy Dukes tasteofcountry.com Rick Diamond / Frazer Harrison, Getty Images Bucky Covington knows how ‘American Idol‘ finalists feel going into an elimination round. But the season five finalist, who finished in eighth place in 2006, tells Taste of Country that the real competition begins when you go home for good. “I think people have a perception of you,” the always chatty Covington says about fan expectations after ‘Idol.’ “You have to almost be as good as Tim McGraw even though you have none of the experience.” The live show is one area many contestants struggle with, and he says that’s because playing for cameras and playing for a crowd take two very different skill sets. “Pretty much you let the camera do the work. You kind of stand there and let the camera do all the dancing around you and let the editing part of it make you look good,” he explains, laughing. Covington is currently embarking on a ‘Hometown Tour’ of American small towns. Growing up in Rockingham, N.C., the singer says he knows what it’s like to have to drive two hours to see your favorites. And musically, he says he’s been exploring the soul side of country music, which is part of his personality that many of his television fans never saw before he was eliminated. The ‘A Different World’ singer offers this advice for this season’s country favorite Scotty McCreery: Learn each person’s job within the music business, and take your time making big decisions. “One thing you have to really realize is you’re always in the spotlight,” he says. Covington hasn’t had time to follow this season, but noticed that the men were dominating early on. “That’s going to make for a boring tour,” he quipped with a laugh.

Bucky Covington Donates Funds for Injured Fire Fighters and Police OfficersBucky Covington has always been known in Nashville as a “good guy,” but now he’s taking that to a whole new level. Covington has joined forces with “Help the Good Guys” — a charitable organization that honors and supports injured fire fighters, police officers and their families. Over the past several weeks, Covington and the organization have worked closely together to raise funding and awareness for the 130,000-plus fire fighters and law enforcement officers who experience financial crisis due to work related injuries each year. “’Help The Good Guys’ perform an amazing service for our police officers and fire fighters across the country, and I’m honored to join them in their efforts,” says Covington, who donated a check for $11,607 recently. “It’s rewarding for me to recognize these hard-working men and women and help bring some financial relief to these families in their time of need.” Covington’s acts of kindness have exceeded the monetary donation, however. The star has also lent his singing talents to several events that have also benefited the cause, including shows in Birmingham, Ala. and Detroit, Mich. to support the injured heroes in their local communities. Then, on April 21, Covington will hist a special motorcycle ride and concert in Chattanooga, Tenn., which will also benefit injured fire fighters and police officers.
