Inductions to take place during Country Music Week - September 9-12, 2011
(Toronto, ON) June 21, 2011 - The Canadian Country Music Association® is pleased to announce the 2011 Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame inductees. Recognized for her outstanding contributions to Canada's country music landscape, Michelle Wright has been announced as this year's Artist inductee. Bill Langstroth, the host of one of Canada's first talent showcases, "Singalong Jubilee," will have his outstanding achievements in television production celebrated in the Industry Builder category.
Canadian born Michelle Wright has drawn rave reviews for her powerful voice for the last two decades. Selling nearly two million albums in North America and enjoying an international career she is the first Canadian artist in the modern era of country to have a Top Ten hit in America (Take It Like A Man, 1992) and a Number One video on CMT-USA.
"What a tremendous honour. I deeply appreciate this recognition and am so very proud to have had the opportunity to represent Canada across the globe through my music," said Michelle Wright of her upcoming induction. "I have been blessed, and continue to be blessed, with a wonderful career. My thanks go out to the CCMA along with my fans, industry friends and outstanding team - a team that includes my manager Brian Ferriman and my husband Marco. For more than 25 years I have felt their support and without it this recognition would not be possible. "
Spending his youth in Montreal, Bill Langstroth landed his first gig in Halifax as a producer at CBC. Working alongside the recognized Don Messer, Langstroth quickly climbed the ladder, moving from coordinating producer in 1954 to a series producer in 1955. Under this title, Langstroth grew the Don Messer show to a nationally broadcasted program and in the years following hosted, "Singalong Jubilee." His extensive efforts and great talent in the areas of television production allow him to be recognized as one of the country's first and best industry leaders.
"I am honoured and delighted by my induction into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame," said Bill Langstroth. "To be recognized for my years in the industry by the CCMA as an industry Builder is a distinction that I am proud to celebrate alongside this year's artist inductee, Michelle Wright."
The Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame inductions will take place during a private industry event to be held during Country Music Week. After their induction, Michelle and Bill will have their official plaques displayed at the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame located in Merritt, BC. They will also be acknowledged within the collections of the National Music Centre, which is to be opened in Calgary, AB in 2014.
Taking place September 9-12, 2011, in Hamilton, Ontario, Country Music Week culminates in the live broadcast of the Canadian Country Music Awards, Monday, September 12, 2011 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC Television and at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CMT Canada.
