This was one of Mike Nesmith's best compositions. It was first released by Paul Butterfield on The Paul Butterfield Blues Band's East-West LP. On the Monkees version Glen Campbell handles the lead guitar lick - Campbell is playing a blues lick and had difficulty picking it up. It's nonetheless an immortal lick and appropriate for Glen Campbell.

Former Monkee Davy Jones dies at age 66 in Florida
Davy Jones, former lead singer of the 1960s made-for-television pop band The Monkees, died on Wednesday at a hospital in Florida, according to an official from the local medical examiner's office. Jones, 66, born in Manchester, England, became the principal teen idol of the rock quartet featured on the NBC comedy series "The Monkees," which was inspired in part by the Beatles film "A Hard Day's Night" and ran from the fall of 1966 to August of 1968. Although not allowed to play their own instruments on their early records, Jones and his three cohorts - Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork - had several hits that sold millions of copies, including "Last Train to Clarksville" and "I'm a Believer."

Davy Jones Dead at 66: Trace Adkins and Chuck Wicks Share Fond Memories
Former Monkees singer Davy Jones died of a heart attack today (Feb. 29) at the age of 66. Though Jones was a pop icon, memorizing kids of the ’60s with his television series band, even country stars were affected by the loss and shared fond memories of the singer and the show via Twitter. It just goes to show that music is a universal language, regardless of genre.
Trace Adkins issued a tweet about watching the show on Saturday mornings — crucial TV viewing hours when you are a kid. It immediately conjured up images of little Trace as a tyke, enjoying the Monkees’ hits. “I remember watching The Monkees on Saturday mornings when I was a kid,” he said. “DAYDREAM BELIEVER…Rest in peace.”
Chuck Wicks, on the other hand, shared a more personal and firsthand experience with Jones, revealing that he actually made the late singer’s acquaintance at an awards show a few years ago. He tweeted: “Sat next to Davy Jones at an award show couple years back. Such a great guy.. RIP Davy Jones.”
Davy Jones is survived by a wife and four children.
