SCOTTY MCCREERY REVEALS MORE ABOUT UPCOMING DEBUT ALBUMReigning ‘American Idol‘ king Scotty McCreery tells Billboard he’s pleased with the progress of his debut album, which he’s been recording this summer on off-days from the Idols Live! Tour. McCreery is working on the album with producer Mark Bright, who has also collaborated with previous ‘Idol’ winner Carrie Underwood. Bright produced McCreery’s debut single, ‘I Love You This Big.’ The album will be country music, but McCreery says it will have some variety: “It’s got different vibes on each song. We’re trying not to make it all ballad-y or all up-tempos. We’re getting a good mix of everything in there. It’s got a good ol’ country feeling on some songs, and it’s got a contemporary feel in some songs.” McCreery has thought about including remakes on the album but says he’s leaning against it: “We’re thinking if we have this one chance to do a whole album of new, original stuff, why take up one slot of the album with a cover song, especially after I just got done with a show full of covers?” Among the other concerns on the 17-year-old’s mind is whether he’ll be able to return to North Carolina for his senior year of high school. “I’m still a kid,” he says. “This is a huge thing for me, this ‘Idol’ thing and starting my career early, but I don’t want to miss out on all those memories that everybody has from senior (year). So hopefully I can get back from some high school football games and have a little bit of fun outside of (the music).”

Scotty McCreery Seeks ‘Nice Hometown Girl’ to Date By: Amanda Hensel
Sorry, Lauren Alaina — it seems that ‘American Idol‘ front-runner Scotty McCreery is looking to find a nice girl from his hometown of Garner, N.C. to date … Eventually.
“Dating has kind of been on the backburner for me. I haven’t really had time to think about that with this whole tour thing,” McCreery spills to PARADE magazine. Unlike many young men who are quick to fame (like fellow ‘Idol’ competitor Paul McDonald who is now engaged to ‘Twilight’ actress Nikki Reed, to name one), the ‘I Love You This Big’ hitmaker isn’t on the hunt for the prettiest model or actress — he just wants a normal girl.
McCreery adds, “But it’s definitely going to be tough and I’ve told many people that I’m not looking to go out there and find the most beautiful girl in the world who likes me because I’m Mr. American Idol Scott McCreery. If I could just find a nice hometown girl who just likes me for who I am, that’s all I want.”
We admire McCreery’s long-term goals, though in her defense, Lauren Alaina is from the small town of Rossville, Georgia. While that’s not the ‘Idol’ winner’s hometown, we’d like to point out that she is still a down-to-earth lady who has known McCreery since before he was rubbing elbows with the big country stars, and a perfect match to boot.
Whichever “nice hometown girl” McCreery bags, we know he’ll love her as big as he can stretch his arms out.

Scotty McCreery, ‘The Trouble With Girls’ – Song ReviewBy: Billy Dukes Scotty McCreery‘s second single, ‘The Trouble With Girls,’ is his make-it-or-break-it moment. The ‘American Idol’ ride is just about over, making him just another country artist until he proves his mettle with a few hits in a row. The haters are looking for a reason to call the 17-year-old a flash in the pan, but unfortunately for them, they won’t find one on ‘The Trouble With Girls.’ This isn’t to say the second song from ‘Clear as Day’ — in stores on October 4 — is perfect. Heavy-handed production almost sabotages a fine performance of a great lyric written by Chris Tompkins and Philip White. The first half of the nearly four-minute ballad is raw, vulnerable and memorable. It actually sounds like a song Jake Owen would snatch up quickly if given the chance. “The trouble with girls is they’re a mystery / Something about them puzzles me / Spent my whole life trying to figure out / Just what them girls are all about,” McCreery sings over a delicate piano to begin the song. There’s confidence and maturity beyond his experience as he never over sings the moment. Too often a new singer sounds like he or she is begging, but there isn’t an ounce of desperation in anything McCreery has released thus far. The chorus goes, “They smile that smile / They bat those eyes / They steal you with hello / They kill you with goodbye / They hook you with one touch / And you can’t break free / Yeah the trouble with girls / Is nobody loves trouble as much as me.” The second verse continues to build toward a beautiful climax before the song’s producer begins behaving like a kid left alone with a big bowl of sugar at the breakfast table. “They’re sugar and spice and angel wings / Hell on wheels in tight blue jeans / A summer night down by the lake / An old memory that you can’t shake.” Suddenly this bare-bones showcase of the young singer’s voice turns into the biggest song he’ll ever make. There is simply no need for a string orchestra on this song. By the time McCreery gets through the bridge, they’re all sawing away like he’s onstage with the New York Philharmonic. This is the kid’s second single, not his final opus! McCreery never matches the energy brought to the song by the heavy instrumentation, leading one to wonder if he was even in the room when those parts were added. There’s little doubt the country newbie is trusting his new management team to make good decisions on his behalf, and for the most part, Team Scotty has done a marvelous job. On ‘The Trouble With Girls,’ someone left the wolves in charge of the hen house.
