Scotty McCreery to Deliver Gift Boxes to Impoverished Dominican Republic Children
By: Amy Sciarretto
Scotty McCreery is going to make like Santa Claus this holiday season and not because he is going to don a red suit and hand out gifts at a promotional event. The Season 10 ‘American Idol’ winner is actually doing much more. He is headed to the Dominican Republic to take part in Operation Christmas Child, which is the world’s largest Christmas project.
McCreery will be in the country from Dec. 27 through Dec. 31 to deliver gift-filled shoe boxes to impoverished children in the country. McCreery is truly emblematic of the spirit of giving during Christmas and the holidays, choosing to leave the comforts of home in order to provide for others.
For years, the ‘I Love You This Big’ singer has actually filled shoe boxes with toys, school supplies and others items of necessity for young children in need, who might not otherwise receive a present during the holidays. Since McCreery is in the public eye, he is using his fame for good and is encouraging his fans to participate in this charitable initiative alongside him. Operation Christmas Child has a goal to deliver items to 8.5 million children this holiday season.

Scotty McCreery to Head Home for Christmas
Scotty McCreery has had a whirlwind year but he’s happy to report, that he’ll be back home in North Carolina just in time for Christmas. “I’ll be home. We made sure we blocked off those dates,” McCreery tells Taste of Country. “I have a couple of events prior to that. It’ll be a busy time but it’ll be nice because when the holiday comes around, we’ll be home.”
One of the events the ‘American Idol’ singer is referring to falls just two days after Christmas, when he will travel to the Dominican Republic to deliver gifts to needy children. At the end of this week, though, McCreery and his family will divide their time between the North Carolina homes of Scotty’s two grandmothers. “It’s pretty simple. There’s nothing really crazy we do,” he said. “The last couple years my mom made cinnamon buns for breakfast and that was nice. We eat really healthy over here!”
Almost as soon as the the holiday is over, McCreery will be back to work. In January, he begins a tour with Brad Paisley, who he saw in concert long before he became a professional musician himself. “Just to get to meet him and see how down home and humble he is,” said McCreery. “To see somebody that nice and down to earth, it’s refreshing. It all still amazes me.”
Although McCreery will again be away from home for long stretches, he said he always packs a special keepsake to take along — a pillow his grandmother made for him years ago. “I don’t carry anything like a good luck charm or anything. I never really had one,” he said. “I always take my pillow. It’s the pillow my grandma made for me when I was really young and I had it for years. It’s a small one I sleep on. For years it was a big American flag pillow. Last year, the wear-and-tear got to it and she had to redesign it. I have it back now.”
Although McCreery will be celebrating the holiday with his family, you can catch him on the pre-taped Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade on December 25.

Josh Turner Doesn’t Envy Scotty McCreery
By: Amy Sciarretto tasteofcountry.com
When we first met ‘American Idol‘ Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery just under a year ago, he sang Josh Turner‘s ‘Your Man’ a capella for the judges and was upstreamed to the next round. McCreery has not concealed the fact that he admires Turner and that he ultimately hopes to emulate Turner’s career. Even though Turner supports McCreery as he continues to evolve into a country superstar in his own right, he doesn’t return the admiration for McCreery’s on-the-go lifestyle right now.
Turner revealed to Country Weekly that whenever he sees McCreery, the teen is burning the candle at both ends and is somewhat sleep deprived. “When I see him, he’s just doing the best he can at just staying awake,” Turner admitted. “He’s pretty busy, and I don’t envy him one bit. He’s going from here and there and everywhere, doing the music thing, finishing school and playing baseball.” Considering that McCreery is still a youngin’, he’s likely operating off boundless reserves of youthful energy.
Turner revealed that he has even spoken to Mom and Dad McCreery, and even they’re dealing with the residual effects of having a superstar son. Turner said, “I got to talk to his parents a good bit, and they’re pretty tired and busy. They were taking a red eye out after the [American Country] awards show so he could be at school the next morning.”
Even though McCreery has been thrust into the promotion machine that comes with stardom, he has not changed nor has he gone “Hollywood,” from Turner’s perspective. “He’s kept a level head on his shoulders, and for his age and what he’s been through, I think he’s handled it really well, and I’m proud of him,” Turner said.
A year ago, Scotty McCreery was a wannabe country singer who sang a Josh Turner song to get people’s attention. Now he has earned the respect and attention of the very man he admires. Isn’t that the icing on the cake for Scotty McCreery’s 2011?

Scotty McCreery Shares Family’s Holiday TraditionsBy: Brittany Joy Cooper tasteofcountry.com wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/tasteofcountry.com/files/2011/12/Scotty-McCreery5.jpg [/img] People Young ountry crooner Scotty McCreery and his family don’t mess around when it comes to Christmas traditions and decorations. The 18-year-old ‘American Idol’ winner dished on some of his favorite holiday rituals, his new album and comfort food in a recent holiday interview with People. Titled ‘Scotty McCreery’s Family Feast,’ the story ran with a photo that puts McCreery and his family in a Norman Rockwell-like setting, with McCreery himself presenting the perfectly braised Christmas turkey in their Garner, N.C. home. After winning ‘Idol’ this past May, the young star told People that this year was a “wild” year of touring with his mom, Judy, and being away from his sister Ashley, 21, and his dad, Mike. Though the family has had to spend a significant chunk of the past year apart, they haven’t lost any of their consistency and unity when it comes to the holidays. McCreery says when they built their house six years ago, the family even included a space on the second floor that they call their “Christmas closet,” where they can store all of their decorations and necessities (they put up 12 Christmas trees each year, as well as hundreds of lights). Plus, McCreery’s mom admits one of their favorite traditions, which fizzled out as McCreery and his sister grew older, was getting them matching pajamas for Christmas morning. “It was so corny!” she says. “When they were little, they loved it. I’m traditional like that, and they’re totally OK with it.” His sister Ashley wasn’t sure at the time of the interview what she was going to get her brother for Christmas, but McCreery said the fact that he was going to be home was the best gift of all.

'Idol' track sales see Christmas boom By Brian Mansfield USA TODAY Musician Scotty McCreery performs onstage at the American Country Awards 2011 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on December 5, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. CAPTIONBy Ethan Miller, Getty Images Those Christmas gift cards did wonders for the download numbers last week. Unfortunately, I don't have all the numbers I'd like, including debuts sales for Adam Lambert's and Clay Aiken's new singles. However, Scotty McCreery saw weekly sales of his latest single, The Trouble With Girls, more than triple, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Downloads for that track went from 18,000 to 62,000. I Love You This Big had an even bigger jump, percentage-wise -- 359%. Downloads for Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood's Remind Me duet more than double, and Carrie saw four other tracks have similar gains. Kellie Pickler and Mandisa also saw tracks more than double their sales from the previous week.

Scotty McCreery Pranks Brad PaisleyBrad Paisley has just one weekend to seek retaliation on Scotty McCreery. The younger singer pranked Paisley during his song ‘Celebrity’ on Saturday night in Springfield, Mo. Their run of dates together ends next Saturday in Lexington, Ky. “Well #shotsfired tonight.. too bad i only got a pistol n @bradpaisley prolly has a bazooka somewhere, hahah,” McCreery tweeted after walking on stage dressed as Paisley. He even got the trademark white cowboy hat right, although we’re not sure the boss has ever been seen wearing his own merchandise. “So some young smart@$& who looked a little like me & a lot like @scottymccreery showed up tonight…” Paisley responded on his Twitter page. The two singers have been on the road with the Band Perry since January. According to his official website, McCreery only has a few dates left during his senior year at Garner High School and only a few booked for the summer, although his schedule will no doubt fill out in the coming months. On April 1, McCreery will learn if he’s the ACM Awards New Artist of the Year. Fans can vote for McCreery, Hunter Hayes or Brantley Gilbert beginning March 19 at

Scotty McCreery To Perform “Goodbye” Song On American Idol
Scotty McCreery has been chosen to perform the “goodbye” song for Season 11 of American Idol, FOX’s hit singing-competition series.
“It’s always a sad time whenever this song is played, but it’s definitely a really big part of the show,” Scotty says. “I never had to experience that feeling personally, but I always felt the pain because we became such a close family on the show. We were such a tight-knit group of people, so it was always sad to see people go. The send-off song was always a way to stay connected to the show. I’m glad they chose me to do it.”
Scotty selected the Tim McGraw hit “Please Remember Me” as the “goodbye” song that will be played after a contestant is eliminated and video highlights of the contestant’s experiences on Idol are shown. The song will debut on American Idol on Thursday.
Simon Fuller, creator/executive producer of American Idol and CEO of XIX Entertainment, says, “Once again this year I wanted to have one of Idol’s past winners sing our farewell song. The success Scotty has enjoyed since he won Idol last year is incredible. He has a platinum album selling over a million copies in just a few short months and has enjoyed a sell-out arena tour with Brad Paisley. With the release of this special song, ‘Please Remember Me,’ his success is set to continue and hit new highs. Idol is proud of all the incredible stars that have come from our show.”
Scotty says “Please Remember Me” is a great song with lyrics that are very appropriate for this setting. “When you are eliminated, whether it’s early on or down the road in the competition, you always want people to remember you. You want to get to work and put out some good music, and through that music, people will remember you. This is one way this lyric can be interpreted for this goodbye song.
“Tim did such a fantastic job with it when he cut it. Hopefully we will live up to his expectations and he will like it,’ Scotty says. “I sent Tim a message and told him that we cut it and I hope that he liked it. He told me, ‘Great man. I can’t wait to hear it. I’m sure you nailed it.’ It was cool hearing that feedback from a country superstar.”
Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of FremantleMedia North America and American Idol executive producer, says, “Since being crowned the American Idol last year, Scotty has become a platinum-selling recording artist with legions of fans and immense popularity. He’s the ideal choice to sing the ‘goodbye’ song this season.”
Scotty will perform on American Idol later this season. “I am pumped!” he says. “That was my launching pad and what gave me my platform to do what I’m doing now. Anytime I can go back and see some familiar faces and say thanks, I will be the first one to do it.
“I am excited to go up there and sing and hopefully have some one-on-one time with contestants and see what they are up to and maybe have a chance to give them some advice and some of my ins and outs of the competition that I learned through my experience.”
Since winning Season 10 of American Idol in May, he has quickly emerged as one of the most successful country stars of the last year. His debut album, Clear As Day, was certified platinum for sales of more than 1 million units in just three months, and he was named No. 1 on Billboard magazine’s list of Top New Country Artists for 2011. He also won New Artist of the Year at the American Country Awards in December.
His debut album on Mercury Nashville/19 Recordings/Interscope, Clear As Day, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts, making him the youngest man in history to open at the top of the all-genre chart with a debut release. It also garnered the highest sales of any country solo album released last year and held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart for six weeks.
Scotty has been nominated for this year’s Academy of Country Music New Artist of the Year Award, which will be given out during the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas on April 1.

Scotty McCreery to Attend North Carolina State University
Scotty McCreery is a legitimate country superstar at the tender age of 18. He won Season 10 of ‘American Idol’ in 2011 and was just awarded a platinum plaque for ‘Clear as Day,’ which celebrates a million copies sold. He’s performed on several late night TV shows and has embarked on major tours. But underneath it all, he’s still a country boy at heart who plans to further his education. He confirmed to CMT Radio (thanks, mjsbigblog) that while he was accepted to all four colleges that he applied to, he will be attending North Carolina State University in Raleigh.
The ‘Water Tower Town’ singer and ACM nominee likely picked this particular learning institution because it’s his father’s alma mater. He is also considering transferring to a school in Nashville after two years at NCSU in Raleigh.
Plenty of celebrities have attended college in the middle of their careers with no negative consequences, so McCreery’s decision to hit the books and earn a degree despite having a red-hot career is not surprising. He certainly honed his multi-tasking skills on last summer’s ‘Idol’ tour, recording his record in between gigs, promotional appearances, interviews and more. So he can obviously handle college and a career.
Congrats to Scotty McCreery on another rite of passage. Perhaps he can perform concerts on campus for his classmates.

Scotty McCreery: “My Friends . . . Call Me the Real-Life Hannah Montana”
Rookie country upstart says he’ll hang a deer head instead of his awards in his college apartment.
So you know how TV character Hannah Montana (played by Miley Cyrus) had the double life, normal high school kid and huge pop star, but the two never mixed?
Scotty McCreery's friends back in his North Carolina hometown say the same thing about him.
"My friends back at home call me the real-life Hannah Montana," the American Idol winner said Sunday night (June 10),
"For the most part I can go eat in my hometown or go bowling and not really be bothered, just a picture here and there. And I enjoy it. I’m having a good time in life right now."
Scotty says he hopes to have a sense of normalcy when he studies communications and public relations at North Carolina State University in the fall.
He says that normalcy won't including living in a dorm because that might be too crazy. But he and some close friends are going to share an apartment near campus.
Visitors won't see Scotty's country music awards in the apartment.
"My buddy’s got a big deer head we’re gonna put in the living room," he said.
The Hannah Montana life will continue—Scotty says he'll have classes three days a week, and he'll be touring and recording for the rest of the week.
"We'll see how it goes," he said.

Scotty McCreery throwing out first pitch at Chattanooga Lookouts game June 22
Season 10 “American Idol” Scotty McCreery will throw out the first pitch at the Lookouts baseball game at AT&T Field on Friday, June 22, at 7:15 p.m.
Pete Intza, Lookouts spokesman, confirmed McCreery’s appearance and first-pitch honors. The country singer’s visit is one of the promotions during Paint the Park Purple, a benefit for the Mid-South chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association during the Lookouts vs. Pensacola Blue Wahoos game.
McCreery should have no trouble getting the ball across home plate. A pitcher on his Garner High School baseball team, he loves the game so much he gave up touring with Brad Paisley this past spring semester to return to school to play ball his senior year.
Beth Cragon, office and volunteer coordinator for the Alzheimer’s Association, said Paint the Park Purple will be an awareness event for the local chapter.
“The Lookouts will be wearing purple jerseys that will be sold in a silent auction during the game,” she said.
Cragon said fans attending the game are asked to wear purple as well.
“If fans buy game tickets through the Alzheimer’s Association, they will be the same price but part of the proceeds will be donated to the association,” said Cragon.
“They can get tickets by calling 265-3600 or dropping by the office, 7625 Hamilton Park Drive, at the intersection of Lee Highway and Bonny Oaks Drive.”

Scotty McCreery Leaves High School With 'Bittersweet' MemoriesMark Humphrey, AP Scotty McCreery packed a lot into his four years of high school. The North Carolina native not only became the season 10 winner of "American Idol," he also hit the road with Brad Paisley, serving as the opening act on the superstar's Virtual Reality world tour. It was a lot for the former grocery-store clerk to juggle, all while maintaining his grades, but he says he still has mixed feelings about seeing that chapter of his life end. "I enjoyed my four years of high school, so it's bittersweet," the recent graduate tells The Boot. The 18-year-old admits he had reservations about returning to Garner Magnet High School after his stint on "Idol," but quickly discovered his friends didn't care about his new-found fame. "I thought they would [treat me differently]," he concedes. "I was kind of scared going back, because we didn't know how it would work out, but they're probably the ones that slap me around the most and say, 'Stop singing! Shut up, Scotty! They like to poke fun at me." In spite of his burgeoning music career, which already includes a platinum-selling debut CD, Clear as Day, Scotty wants to have a solid back-up plan. With that in mind, he's heading to North Carolina State University in the fall. "We're not going to take a full week's load of classes," he notes. "Probably like a two-day schedule. That's the initial plan, but we'll see what works out. It will be a balance for sure. We'll figure it out." Scotty's run with Brad continues with a show tonight (June 15) in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, followed by stops in Michigan and New York.
