GEORGE CANYON PRESENTED WITH GOLD RECORD FOR ‘BETTER BE HOME SOON’ ON CANADA AM
April 13, 2011
TORONTO: April 13, 2011 - This morning in front of a national television and live studio audience, country music star George Canyon was presented with a Gold Record on CTV’s Canada AM, for his album, Better Be Home Soon which has become his fastest selling album to date!
Canyon’s sixth studio album, Better Be Home Soon, captures and radiates his unique sound on what may be his most ambitious album yet. While maintaining his distinctive sound the country star introduced a seductive new edge into the mix! This is also the second album George has co-produced with pop king Richard Marx, who also co-produced on 2008’s What I Do. “We selected songs for this record that challenged me both vocally and in terms of content. Richard really understood what I was going for in What I Do and the collaboration was so electrifying, I think we succeeded in capturing some of the energy of my live show for this album.
"First of all, I want to thank the fans for spending their hard earned dollars to give me the fastest selling record of my career.” Canyon said. “I am so blessed to have their support. I also want to thank CMT and Canadian radio for embracing the music and playing it. I never take that for granted. Thanks to Richard Marx for producing a great record and for getting the best out of me and my songs. Thanks to my management team Cressman Sakamoto Agency, Universal Music, Anya Wilson for doing a great job at radio and the songwriters and musicians involved - you guys are all the best at what you do. "
Canyon, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 14, is the national spokesperson for the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). A portion of the proceeds of the sale of Better Be Home Soon will be donated to the foundation.
The first single from Better Be Home Soon is the title track, an intensely intimate version of Crowded House’s 1988 hit which made Top 5 in the Canadian charts earlier this year. The new single, “Surrender” was the most added single to radio of all formats on it’s week of release. A testament to Canyon’s ‘radio friendly’ music, came when he was named the most played Canadian artist on Canadian country radio for 2009 and 2010 by Canada’s national radio monitor, Mediabase. Canyon has sold over 270,000 albums in Canada, is known for his stellar live performances and will be touring throughout Canada this year.
