Thompson Square Cancel Shows Due to Family EmergencyMatt Sayles, AP Our thoughts and prayers are with Thompson Square's Shawna Thompson, following the cancellation of three appearances due to a family emergency. "Shawna's father has been quite ill for a few months, and she needs to be by his side at this time," reads a statement on the duo's website. David Nail will fill in for the couple on Lady Antebellum's Own the Night tour stops in Detroit, Mich. (Feb. 25) and Evansville, Ind. (Feb. 26). Shawna and husband Kiefer Thompson were also scheduled to perform at the New Faces show tonight (Feb. 24) as part of Country Radio Seminar in Nashville. CRS officials tell The Boot that Thompson Square will not be replaced with another act. Country radio personnel vote on the coveted performance slots, which this year include Hunter Hayes, David Nail, Sunny Sweeney and the Eli Young Band. Thompson Square's next Own the Night scheduled tour date is March 2 in New Orleans, La. No word yet on how their current situation will effect the date.

Shawna Thompson's Father Dies
A sad update to a story we posted earlier today about country duo Thompson Square: Shawna Thompson has lost her father to cancer.
"It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Shawna Thompson's father, George Michael "Mickey" Mcllwain, passed away yesterday evening in Alabama after a valiant battle with cancer," reads a statement from the band's publicist. "Shawna and her family were by his side when he passed. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. We ask that you please keep both Shawna and Keifer, as well as Shawna's family, in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time."
Shawna's love for country music is thanks to her late father, who played guitar for his little girl, teaching her traditional country songs.
Thompson Square have had to cancel a few shows to be with Shawna's family. They have pulled out of tonight's New Faces show at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville. And David Nail will fill in for the couple on Lady Antebellum's Own the Night tour stops in Detroit, Mich. (Feb. 25) and Evansville, Ind. (Feb. 26).
Sending our thoughts and prayers to Shawna, Keifer and everyone in the Mcllwain family.

Thompson Square Involved in Bus AccidentThompson Square were returning home from a show in Pembroke Pines, Fla. on Monday morning (Jan. 28) when their tour bus was blindsided just 20 minutes from home. The married duo shared the news and pictures on Twitter and Facebook. According to one tweet, the accident occurred around 5:30AM. “A woman just didnt (sic) see us early this morning and hit us as we crossed the highway,” a tweet which has since been removed read. “It was pretty foggy.” It’s not clear who besides Keifer and Shawna Thompson were aboard the bus at the time, or whether anyone was injured. The duo has some time off to recover from the accident — or at the very least get their bus fixed. They’re not scheduled to return to the road as part of Luke Bryan‘s Dirt Road Diaries Tour until Feb. 7 in New York. Last week, the duo announced they’ll release their new album ‘Just Feels Good‘ on March 26. They also just finished with the music video for their current single ‘If I Didn’t Have You.’ Earlier this month, Keifer Thompson played a prank on fans by tweeting a picture that made it look like he’d been punched and Shawna Thompson had been hospitalized.

Keifer Thompson on Recent Vocal Scare: eIfve Been Abusing My Voice for Yearsf
By Christina Vinson August 3, 2013 tasteofcountry.com
For Keifer Thompson, one-half of country duo Thompson Square, his voice is everything. Without it, he and his wife Shawna canft tour, record or rehearse. After his recent vocal hemorrhage, the singer revealed some scary news, saying that hefd unknowingly been abusing his voice for years.
Thompson told CMT that although he noticed he lost his voice at times and it was hoarse, he didnft realize that his vocal damage was extremely serious. gYou know, I didnft know the extent of the damage. Ifve been abusing my voice I guess for years,h he confessed.
He added, gThey were like, eYoufre gonna have to have surgery. Youfve got a hemorrhage. Youfve got a polyp going on.f Ifm just like, eI kinda lost some of my voice,f you know? I was like, eWhatfs going on?f I was hoarse. And they said, eLetfs find a less invasive way to do it.f So, two weeks off.h
At first, the news upset him, but after getting advice from several country stars who had been down the same road, he felt more optimistic about the ordeal.
Although the vocal scare caused the country couple to cancel several shows, it was for the best. Thompson is definitely on the mend and has returned to stage better than ever. gWe came back and he was just like eThe hemorrhage is gone.f I sang that week, came back and he goes, eEverythingfs almost completely gone.f He was like, eWhat have you done?f I was like, eMan, I didnft say anything. All I was doing was praying.fh
Turns out those two weeks of (silent) praying really worked out, as Thompson says, gMy voice is to a point now where I havenft been able to do what Ifm doing for a year and-a-half, almost two years.h
Thatfs great news for the Vocal Duo of the Year, although it does change things for Shawna. Her husband states humorously, hNow that I can talk again, Ifm like eIfm back baby!f And shefs like eOh God, I liked you when you were silent.fh
Although T2Œs days of peace and quiet are over, they again get to show off their collective voices on Luke Bryanes Dirt Road Diaries Tour. Now, thatfs something to sing about!
