Oh...good mention Kora of Led Zepplin...lets not forget The Rolling Stones and of coarse The Beatles...not to mention The Dave Clark Five.
Do you know where they got their inspiration and influence...from the bands right here in the USA.
The Beatles got their name from the Crickets...Buddy Holly's band.
Led Zepplin frequented the old blues bars in Mississippi for inspiration.
Anyone interested in homework? chirp... cricket noise.... chirp...

There will be a quiz!!!
The question is...who did Harry and John influence? nashville - I didn't know that about the British groups. Are you sure? Think I'll stick with Led Zeppelin and leave the other three groups in your care. LOL! I know that everyone loves the Beatles and the Stones. The Beatles songs are classics and good stuff but I never got into their voices and sounds, ditto for the Stones. As a teen, guess I didn't have time to handle all of them. My mom likes The Dave Clark Five. I haven't listened to them that much. Hey, I'll leave the quiz for someone else. I'm not much for homework. The only one I really know about is George. Otherwise, I just like to lisen to what I like, and I have so many quizzes in my new job and need a break from them, which I'm taking now and probalby need to get back to work.

Ah another great British/Aussi group...the Bee Gees!!!
I know we used to call bands like this the anti rock.
I am sorry Kora but disco was a disease in the 70's.
Classic rockers were where it's at...or where it was at!
I remember someone interviewing Robin or Barry and asking them if they were embarrassed of their work.
Barry or Robin simply said "You go out and sell 200 million albums and then come back and ask."
I have to admit...their blood harmonies are second to none...the intensity was certainly there.
If only John Travolta would have skipped there music on his anti rock documentary..."Saturday Night Fever"
The Bee Gees do have country roots though...Barry I think bought Johnny Cash's house.
Then burnt it down and well here is a statement.
"Robert Sullivan announced in a press release in January 2006 that the Gibbs purchased the home and planned to write songs in the house. The couple, who live in Miami, Fla., paid $2.3 million for the seven-bedroom home built in 1968.
The couple's plans to renovate and restore the home to its original grandeur were almost complete in April 2007 when a spark from a preservative caught fire and destroyed the mostly wooden structure. Shortly after the blaze, the Gibbs announced plans to build a new house and preserve the original foundations of the home next-door neighbor Marty Stuart once called the Graceland of country music."

Actually we need a thread called History Of Rock.
Amongst all the preforementioned artists were from the U.K.
Along with Pink Floyd...The Who...Emerson, Lake and Palmer...The Faces...Sir Elton...Tull...Yes...The Monkees...and so many more.
They were whooping America at rock and roll...the ones who invented it.
We battled back with bands like Foghat...Aerosmith...The Band etc...
We would have surly got our butts whooped good if it wasn't for Southern Rock.
With the likes of The Allmans...Skynyrd...Hatchet...and a take no prisoners attitude...we persevered.
We flanked them and spanked them<<<Just made that one up.
Here is a clip of Greg Lake of ELP...one of my favorites in the day.

Since nashville has moved Taylor to non-country, it's my cue to post some non-country videos. I hope others will join me. "One More Try" - My favorite George Michael song Kora, I love this thread...and I love this George Michael song. I've had the album forever.

My turn...Kora here is something as equally misunderstood.
I believe that my favorite singer songwriter growing up was Cat Stevens.
He never recorded a song that wasn't a hit...
BTW....I keep a personal music chart in my mind...Cat is in the top 10.
Until of coarse he changed his name to Yusuf Islam and converted his faith in 1977.
Just about the time people were really getting his music then wham... hes gone!
Now I am told to hate all Muslims...just like when I was fighting age...hate all Commies.
I just watched the movie "World Trade Center" yesterday at work and it got me to wondering.
Anyway here is Yusuf Islam being inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame last year.

This makes me want to hear more!
....Michael, I've had this album forever too.

nashville - A thread on history of rock thread sounds good. Why don't you start one. I can read and learn. I heard about the Cash fire and Barry buying and wanting to build from the foundation. Quite a while ago, I think.
Now a peak into my wild side and the bad boys. Almost was afraid to post it. Kim might throw me out. LOL!
Guns N' Roses - "Sweet Child Of Mine"
When I was a teen, I was a hugh fan. Still like to hear some of their old songs.

Hey, Jo, So glad you joined us. Didn't know you were into this type of music. Glad you like "One More Try." And thanks for the videos. I really like the early U2. My hubby is a big U2 fan. Son likes such a wide variety I can't keep up with him. I grew up with my parents listening to country music so it's what I heard. But in my teens, like most teens, I didn't want to listen to "their" music so I listened to pop. I was 17 when I graduated from high school and moved a hundred miles away. Which moved me forward into disco, then urban cowboy, then the older black groups which played live gigs locally. That was followed by the years when everyone in my neighborhood sat outside on the porch stoops every evening. No air conditioning. We all shared music, laughter, jokes, and beverages. Then I got consolidated out of a job and decided to move to a different town and ended up working at an NPR radio station. I loved the classical, some of the minimalist....never really did develop a love for the opera. It filled my days, 5 days a week, in the background. It was part of my job to have a monitor on my desk. Another move to another town a few years later and I found myself engaged to a guy who loved jazz. Which is especially awesome live. About the only music I haven't followed along the way is rap, the heavier rock, punk, and opera. It's kind of ironic that mainstream country is now largely a mix of rock and rap. Such is life. Mostly though I fell in love with the violin/fiddle when I was in the first grade and if you follow the trail through what I've always loved best, it's where that fiddle is. Fiddles are where my heart and home live.

You know I stood in line for an hour outside the movie theatre in 20 degree weather to see this movie. Jo - Now, that's a fan. I've done it for George and for U2 concerts. It was cold but not that cold! The U2 seat was not that great, but at least I was there.
