Since nashville has moved Taylor to non-country, it's my cue to post some non-country videos. I hope others will join me.

Since nashville has moved Taylor to non-country, it's my cue to post some non-country videos. I hope others will join me. "One More Try" - My favorite George Michael song Kool Kora...nice thread...but you know it will be buried by the connection don't you? Don't worry I'll wait for my main man Jeffery Van Dyke to return with the shovels. Now this is your favorite George Michael song? I had to do research and wondered what the song was about...kinda on the dark side. I do like the lead lines of the song: I've had enough of danger And people on the streets I'm looking out for angels Just trying to find some peace I don't know if you are looking for an honest opinion...but I'll give it. This song was put out around the time I was listening to Hank Jr etc. Now if I were to play this song in the clubs I used to patronize in that time frame I would have to leave and would not be welcomed back. So I never dared...until that time I accidentally played Culture Club instead of David Allan Coe...I accidentally broke the jukebox. I had to leave and have never ever been back. Nor have I listened to what I'll label as...what do you call it...diet pop? On another note the bands Wham...George Michael...Prince etc...are all favorites of Jackson Taylor...strange indeed.

My turn...Kora here is something as equally misunderstood.
I believe that my favorite singer songwriter growing up was Cat Stevens.
He never recorded a song that wasn't a hit...
BTW....I keep a personal music chart in my mind...Cat is in the top 10.
Until of coarse he changed his name to Yusuf Islam and converted his faith in 1977.
Just about the time people were really getting his music then wham... hes gone!
Now I am told to hate all Muslims...just like when I was fighting age...hate all Commies.
I just watched the movie "World Trade Center" yesterday at work and it got me to wondering.
Anyway here is Yusuf Islam being inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame last year.

nashville,
Glad you joined me. Hope others do and the thread is not buried. Thanks for adding Cat Stevens. I know the name but not much of his music.
George Michael is British, has had his issues and problems, does not fit in with the average listener now, was a big success when he was younger. I love his voice and some of his songs.
Don't think you know my background in music, which helps to explain my musical tastes. As a teen, I was exposed to opera & symphony by my dad and to the big bands and pop of the times by my mom. I still like those genres. As a teen, I loved rock and hard metal (still do, mostly the classics) and hated country. My aunt was the only one in the family who loved country. One day, she brought over an early GS album and said listen to some "real" music. LOL! I did and really liked "Our Paths May Never Cross," the cover song written by Merle. That was 1996 and how I became a hugh GS fan, but not country, in general. I like some country songs, voices, but not like real country fans. I like a variety of music.
Here's Sting with "Every Breath You Take," when he was with The Police.

I suppose that we are on the same wave length Kora...I am sure the rest will find this thread when they are ready.
The song that you have chosen by the Police is a very special one...a very special one to me.
Every marriage has a theme song and "Every Breath You Take" was and still is ours...and everyone else who loves it as much as I.
What a classic tune that I can name in three beats...plus a good tune to listen to on long deployments.
Thanks for posting that one!

If you are interested in British music I should get moshe over here. Though I do have a story about it in a way...you'll have to google these names that I drop ...please.
My oldest sister and Bob got married in the mountains above Boulder Colorado....in a fancy commune.
Bob was a successful drummer and he and the band members lived in a duplex that dad owned.
Whenever they would tour Denver we would get free tickets...these hippies were the real deal.
The concert goers were barefoot dancing and doing all sorts things in front of mom and dad.
My sister would come get me and take me backstage and let me experience these people.
She left me with this long haired burnout hippy dude while she ran off again.
He mostly sat there while folks came up to talk to him...I too just sat.
He got up once and said lets go...which I did.
Then he said wait here while he went to the head...which I did.
Then we went back and sat down and he talked some more.
My sister came back and said thanks John...and took me back to mom and dad.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Mayall
I later found out that it was John Mayall...like I said earlier...google...it's your friend.
So I can honestly say that at my very first concert I met the greatest British blues player...
ever!

Now back to theme songs...here is the theme song we used at our high school graduation.
This song "Dust In The Wind" by Kansas was one of the songs that we would blast from our car stereos at lunchtime.
Lunchtime was our time...to the Dairy Bar directly in front of the High School...with our cars speakers raring to go.
Maybe it was because it was a quieter rock song...maybe they were just all apathetic about the future.
I like to think that it was just a great song that we exposed them too...still do!
Mind you this video was out in 78...before MTV...before the dinosaurs.

Timeless.
I think that this band was influenced by Kansas...youtu.be/SzsDHtzx6tI

I can understand why you guys played it so much. Metallica sounds like they are coasting here. They can also do a good hard metal.

nashville - I wasn't familiar with John Mayall. I watched a couple of his early and recent videos, and he is bluesy and a little hippy-ish. He had trouble climbing the stairs in the last one, but still enjoyed playing his harmonica. I remember moshe from CWO. We need more posters to make is more fun. Can you talk him into joining us? As for British music, I'm not partial, but they have produced some good classics. "Stairway To Heaven" - Led Zeppelin www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Q7Vr3yQYWQ

Oh...good mention Kora of Led Zepplin...lets not forget The Rolling Stones and of coarse The Beatles...not to mention The Dave Clark Five.
Do you know where they got their inspiration and influence...from the bands right here in the USA.
The Beatles got their name from the Crickets...Buddy Holly's band.
Led Zepplin frequented the old blues bars in Mississippi for inspiration.
Anyone interested in homework? chirp... cricket noise.... chirp...
Research Harry Nelsson

I remember being thrown into a physics class half way through the school year...I was lost.
They had me at the chalk board working out a problem for an entire week. They would yell out what to write...then laugh about it.
The teacher wore a calculator about the size of his shoe on his belt...he was a nerds god...he may have influenced Bill Gates.
I really didn't learn a damn thing that half year...except for one thing.
The teach told me...dang it I just forgot...wait for it...

Oh... Mr teach told me that I need to go back and build a strong mathematical foundation and that mathematics is related to everything.
He passed me with a D ...I asked... a D for what...for dummy???...he said for trying.
It did get me to thinking that we need to know our root to know where we are growing.
See Snider...I did learn something!!!
Billy Joel was a rocker for a minute...
