Little Eva - Locomotion (1962) ....we used to dance to this one in Freshman Gym class in 1974. The songs been redone a lot since then but this is the version we were dancing to then. It was fun.

That is so awesome to go to that show!!! There are so many great older artists touring small venues now.
Imagine...seeing Ian live...I remember hearing about a riot when Tull played Red Rocks.
Oh I had a video in mind but must search this one out...
youtu.be/d2BMPWWt0-k
This is when we snuck into Red Rocks Amphitheater in the 70's.
Notice the dark ledge on Shiprock ...that is where we would come out to watch.
Crazy things that we would do for music. I've got my Maglite but not a cigarette lighter. : ) Kora....Michael and I be a tad bit older than you....oh, to be young again Love Billy Joel. Not a Springsteen fan. Great JB song. I'll add in "Running on Empty"....I was 17 then. Oh Oh Oh...(Horshacks favorite line) The album "Running On Empty" has an insert in the middle of the jacket. In the very middle of the insert is Jackson Browne playing Red rocks. We are the ones on shiprock during this concert. Not long after the Greatful Dead were to play 3 nights at Red Rocks. On the first night some kid fell from our spot on shiprock to his death...they had the other 2 shows in Denver. They really cracked down on kids sneaking in...you would have to go in the day before and camp in the rocks. This was about the time that I got a job at the late McNichols Sports Arena in Denver where all the concerts were.held. I remember the first day at work there...I rode my 10 speed into a cable that knocked me onto my head...right at the back door. The boss came and picked me up and had me clock in and go lay down...pretty cool job indeed!

You know...now-a-days folks turn on their cell phones...some with a flickering candle on the screen.
It looks pretty to see an arena filled with these lights...but something is missing.
Maybe the excitement and freedom ...of living on the edge...appealed to me.
The actual fire that could burn your hair right off...is too dangerous for todays youth.
Something that makes me go hmmmmm...
Kora...you like Babs and George and have an unusual name for todays folks.
I like Taylor and George and have a very usual name in todays age.
I like people who dare to step in uncharted music...with no fences.
Speaking of no fences...what happened to Garth ...has he gotten too big for his britches?
OhOhOh...I am unable to post any videos today...so I will post a lyric instead.
"Mr. Rock N Roll"
He got a song to sing he got an axe to grind He far and wide but still hard to find He go wop bop a loo bop a wop bam boom He sang Long Tall Sally and Sweet Sixteen Good Golly Miss Molly and Maybellene He sent the whole world Walking to New Orleans Mr. Hiatus won’t ya save us from your radio Cuz these hip hop pop punk rock kids got no soul Either way we’re proud to welcome back the star of the show So put your hands together for Mr. Rock n Roll He sang Jailhouse Rock and Peggy Sue Rock Around the Clock and Blue Suede Shoes And still there ain’t no cure for the Summertime Blues He took the Mississippi Queen to Katmandu A Stairway to Heaven and yelled Hey Jude So tell me Proud Mary now Who Do You Love? Mr. Hiatus won’t ya save us from your radio Cuz these hip hop pop punk rock kids got no soul Either way we’re proud to welcome back the star of the show So put your hands together for Mr. Rock n Roll Save me Love me till the day I die take me to the mountain high Baby Guide me through the great divide and lay me by the ocean side So put your hands together for Mr. Rock n Roll He said Hey Good Lookin’, What’s Going On A whole lotta shakin’ and a simple song And still there Ain’t No Mountain High Enough He said Walk This Way Up Around the Bend Cuz up there we Won’t Get Fooled Again And yes, he gets high with a little help from his friends

nash - Are you trying to lead our young people astray? they get into enough trouble all by themselves. LOl! I've aways liked to try new music. That's how I became a Guns N' Roses fan. Tried to get tickets for them once. No luck. Not familiar with Jackson Brown. He sounds a little like Billy Joel in the first video. Good voice and songs. I love the twist. Let's do it. Here I am waiting for Chubby Checkers, and "come on baby, do the locomotive." Love it. We probably shouldn't be talking about Garth since this is not a country thread, but he has gotten "too big for his britches," literally. Too much Trisha food. He should be trying to firm up now. I hear he's touring and selling out concerts one after the other. I saw him years ago. Not interested, now; rather see George, and he's a lot older than Garth. LOL! Here's Whitney

If leading the youngins to good music...I'm all in! Some of the stuff now a days is just stuff filler and noise...now I sound like my folks.
Here is a breakdown of the lyrics above...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes & References (some of these are just a whole lot of speculation!):
"Mr Rock 'n'Roll" was the nickname for Alan Freed, the Ohio DJ who fought to get radio to play R&B music.
"wop bop a loo bop a wop bam boom" is from Tutti Frutti by Little Richard
Long Tall Sally and Good Golly Miss Molly are the titles of songs by Little Richard
Sweet Sixteen is the title of a number of different songs, but BB King's is probably the reference here. (I doubt he's talknig about Neil Sedaka or Billy Idol, but ya never know)
Maybellene is a Chuck Berry song.
Walking to New Orleans is a Fats Domino song.
I'm not sure about "Mr. Hiatus" but Joe Budden has a song called Hiatus. the "...got no soul" could be a reference to Led Zeppelin's Black Dog.
"welcome back the star of the show" is similar to the opening of the Emerson, Lake & Palmer song Welcome Back My Friends ("...to the show that never ends...")
"put your hands together" is also the title of a song by the O'jays
Jailhouse Rock is a song by Elvis Presley, and Peggy Sue is a Buddy Holly Song.
Rock Around the Clock is a Bill Haley and the Comets song. Blue Suede Shoes is a Carl Perkins song, later recorded by Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly others.
"there ain’t no cure for the Summertime Blues" is the well-known line from the song Summertime Blues, originally by Eddie cochran but later made famous by The Who, as well as country singer Alan Jackson and Blue Cheer.
Mississippi Queen is the title of a Mountain song (later done by Ozzy Osbourne, Molly Hatchet, Creedence Clearwater Revival & Ministry.) [It also makes me think of rollin' with a Cajun Queen (CCR-Born on the Bayou but that's probably just me...]
Katmandu is a Bob Seger song (also a Cat Stevens song, but I think that one is spelled Kathmandu)
Staiway to Heaven is the classic Led Zeppelin song, and Hey Jude is the Beatles.
Proud Mary is Creedence Clearwater Revival (John Fogerty), but also a famous version by Tina Turner.
Who Do You Love is a Bo Diddley song which also has a ton of great covers (George Thorogood, The Doors, Bob Seger and Quicksilver Messenger Service)
"Love me 'till the day I die" could be from a number of things. Fats Domino did Love You Till the Day I Die.
"Take me to the mountain high" could be a Marvin Gaye (Ain't No Mountain High Enough) reference, or a Tina Turner (River Deep, Mountain High) one. Or even John Denver (Rocky Mountain High)!
If "through the great divide" is a Hanson or Scott Stapp reference, I may cry. Lets go with the Neil Young song for that one, or the Willie Nelson album. or The Band's Across the Great Divide.
Hey Good Lookin' is a Hank Williams song.
Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On was made most famous by Jerry Lee Lewis, but the origins of the song are in dispute.
Walk This Way is Aerosmith, Up Around The Bend is another Creedence Clearwater Revival song.
We Won't Get Fooled Again is The Who.
A Little Help From my Friends is a Beatles song (which includes the line "I get high with a little help from my friends".)
Mister Mister is a T. Rex song, and Mr Mister is the 80s band who did the Broken Wings hit.

Kora,
I love Whitney's cover of that song. I really listened to Whitney a lot in the 80's.
...and Janet Jackson too. In both her sweet and sassy modes:

gotta have some Stevie Wonder in here too.....I don't know if I mentioned this before or no but the guy I lived with for 7 years (in my late teens and 20's) had a black brother....not genetically but his best friend in grade school had a bad home situation and my boyfriend's family took him in and he lived with them from middle school on. The whole white/black natural back and forth between brothers was a daily thing in my world and had been in his since long before I knew him. I suppose it's one of the reasons why so much of my favorite music from black artists isn't agenda or message driven...it's just music. It's probably also why I never got into rap music...which seems to largely be message driven.

Hey Nash and Jo - What a musical background you guys have.
Nash - Thanks for the info. What a memory you have. Hey, and you do sound like your folks. Folks always say things were better then. Maybe I sound like them, too. I do like some of today's music, but a lot of yesterday's music seemed to have better voices, songs, not watered down like today, and voices not drowned out by background noise.
Jo - I have always liked Tina Turner. What a great figure and performer in the last video you posted.

Kora...I have never been told that I have a great memory...ooops you said that I had a memory...I think that you may be right!
I think what you are hearing now a days is all the ways that you can electronically manipulate music...and do.
Back in the day "synthizer" was a bad word...you had to be able to make your own sounds...or forget it.
Do you remember Peter Frampton and his air guitar???
Heres the video he made about my memory....I think that's the way it went down...lol

Saturday night at midnight is when all the good music was played...
I need to add this edit...that information about the song lyrics and my memory is just something I found.

Kora,
I think I've about run through my favorite non-country highlights now though. : )
