If the song really is about a girl wondering what another girl has that she herself does not have, well then, I still hate the song. To me, the girl needs to grow up and learn that if any one does not like her, its not her problem.
God bless y'all and Little Big Town always!!!
Holly
P.S. To me, "Girl Crush" is a misleading name for the song when its being said that the song is about jealousy. Jealousy in my opinion isn't a crush on anyone.

That's a most excellent reason. : ) HBO is just about to start offering it's programming alacarte. Until now you had to have cable to get it but that's changing. Have you watched True Detective on HBO? The first season had Matthew McCoughnhey in it and I bought the DVD set for that reason. I watched 12 episodes in one day. LOL it was a great show if you like crime drama. Kind of graphic and a lot of cursing though.

Don't obsess over a man who doesn't care for you. I think the title was intended to be misleading.

I completely agree. God Bless You, Yours and James always!!

A Texas guy, of course. : )

Jo, if you like Matthew then you should watch this show on Netflix or DVD. There is going to be a new season of it on HBO, but with different actors. Don't know if I will eventually watch it or not.
I'm also looking forward to the return of Fargo on FX and Rectify on the Sundance channel. Rectify especially is a great show, about a guy getting out of prison after 20 years. I love it.

I figure it'll show up on Netflix or in reruns one of these days and I can catch it then. I just finished watching a movie on Netflix called Soda Springs with Jay Pickett. I don't think I've seen him before but he's a cutie...I loved the movie.

I was looking for an online link for Darius Rucker's new song "So I Sang" (and didn't find it, sigh) but came across Roughstock who has editorialized that LBT's "Girl Crush" got criticized not because there was a gay thing but because women singing torch songs just don't get played on country radio.
I was struck by their description of "Girl Crush" as a "torch song". Seems to me they contradicted their own point by calling it a "torch song".
Either way, I don't listen to mainstream anymore. I have no idea what's going on with airplay now.

There is a service station up the street from my office. They play the local radio station over the speakers at the gas pumps and when I walk outside I can hear the music. For the past three years I haven't liked most of what I've heard at the gas station. Mostly it's just Luke Bryan (and all his songs sound the same), Jason Aldean (who I sometimes I like) and Miranda Lambert (who I do not like anymore). Except for a few older singles from older artists (like George Strait, Toby, sometimes Garth), those three are literally all they play except for a few other current acts whose voices I don't recognize. This is the only time I ever listen to the radio. I don't like to listen to the Sirius stations either because even the station i like the most play a lot of songs I don't care for. I have all the Sirius channels on my TV, but I don't listen to them. I never renewed the subscription for my car when the free trial ran out either.

Miranda,
They have two seasons of Rectify on Netflix. I added it to my list last night.
A couple or three years ago, I just went cold turkey on the radio. I thought I'd miss it but it turns out that I didn't. It was already so far into being rock that I knew what I loved was on it's way out anyway. Bro country came along after I quit listening so I can't really say it was even that that chased me away.
I love the fiddles and the western songs. I loved the songs of redemption and the struggle to figure out life. I loved the ballads.
Maybe there is still some of that left in the mainstream getting radio play....probably from some of the older artists.
More and more though those songs written by committee felt more and more contrived to me. I couldn't find any realness to most of them. It's like they were written from headlines in the media rather than personal experience.
I do really love Kacey Musgraves but she's from the Texas music circuit.
I read a blog recently where the author thought that mainstream country music is about to split into subgenres. I don't follow it so I have no idea what the trends are other than there is a consensus that Bro Country is fading.
I have no idea what happened to Miranda. Revolution was great. Pistol Annie's are fun. Past that she's only had a few songs I liked.
I know it seems to be accepted that everyone liked/loved Springsteen but honestly, I've never listened to the man other than when one of his biggest hits got played in a mix somewhere. I didn't grow up going to his concerts...though I am the right age for it. He was an east coast guy in my day...not a midwest guy. He's not one of my reference points. Yet the entire mainstream now seems to be built on the idea that somehow the world has long revolved around Springsteen and artists like him.
I was listening to Loretta Lynn, Barbara Mandrell, Eddie Rabbitt, Ronnie Milsap, George Strait and the concerts I went to were George Jones, Frizzell and West, and Charly McClain.
In case you've never heard Charly...
...a very far cry from Springsteen.

I cannot understand what happened to Miranda either. I don't like anything she has done past Revolution. I bought the album she put out after Revolution, but I only listened to it one time. I never bought her latest one at all. That song "Little Red Wagon" is just a bunch of unorganized noise. I kind of like a little rock in my country, but there is nothing even remotely musical about that song. She is now the spokesperson for Dodge Ram trucks. The other day I saw a Dodge commercial where she was singing a song that was more country than any of the singles she's done in recent years.
Bro country is a bunch of crap. If people want to rock up their country then there needs to be a real SOUTHERN ROCK revival with songs that actually sound good and amount to something lyrically. That is why I am loving the band Blackberry Smoke. They are true old school southern rock and sound like the old groups like the original Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker Band, etc.

A real Southern Rock revival would make a lot of folks happy...including folks on this board. : )
Then there's people like me who love country music best when it's not "cool" or "rock" ...and it's fiddles and hearts and women who tell it like it is and men who love their families and who work hard.
I get that I'm out of style and likely always will be. For whatever it's worth, I don't believe the lifestyle I'm talking about is gone...I see it all around me, on a regular basis. There are problems....there are always problems. That's part of telling it like it is.
It's more likely you'll get your wish Miranda....with a Southern Rock revival. A lot of the money in music is from corporate sponsorships and rock, in all it's forms, pairs well with alcohol sponsorships.

I like the traditional country too, but there's just somthing about that old school southern rock that makes me feel good. I love just the right amount of country and rock properly mixed, but this "bro country" stuff lacks the magic formula. There's no feeling to it whatsoever. But a lot of times those southern rock ballads will hit you just as hard as pure country song. Granted nobody can take you through emotional wringer quite like Hank Williams Sr. though LOL

Miranda,
Adding in a new link for One Horse Town
Your right....they're really good. Real music by real people.
BTW, I had to have the folks here teach me this but to get the video in the posts on this board, after you hit reply (it doesn't work on quick reply), you'll get a line of symbols that pops up. To insert a video click on the little movie box in the line and a box will pop up for you to insert the link. It's really simple once someone tells you how it works.
