The older I get the less I can relate to any of it. I just don't understand people in their 30s and 40s having every single song be about parties and bonfires etc. I guess I'm in the old people crowd now. LOL

There is a ton of live country music here. Most of it doesn't start until ten or eleven at night.
Obviously the big expensive arena concerts are earlier but live music is largely a late night gig.
I think the artists always have in mind the late night crowds when they choose songs. In the days of album sales, they had stuff for the daytime folks too. But you add in their hopes of getting alcohol sponsors for their tours, which is whee they make their money, and you end up with the unbalanced mess that gets promoted now.
But who wants to hear a party song on the radio as your driving to work in the morning?
At 30, I had a baby and a husband in a war zone. My party was middle of the night diaper changes, warm bottles of baby formula, and watching CNN to see how the war went that day.
At 20, I had been living with my boyfriend for quite awhile already and worked at a job where I got paid once a month and had a $50 a month grocery and household budget..which was much more in 1980 but still wasn't much. That included everything...to, laundry, birth control and dog food. No air conditioning, so we sat outside with the neighbors in the evening where it was cooler and drank iced tea. On Friday nights we would usually play cards with the neighbors and we saved up for a two liter bottle of Pepsi for all of us to share.
I'm not sure I was ever the people they tell us everyone is. I always got up everyday and went to work. Sometimes with two part time jobs along with my full time job.
Probably why the songs all feel fake to me. People have to work or there are no groceries and I was never a fan of the alternative. Several of my neighbors paid their rent in trade with our landlord. Not my style.

It's not that I don't like to rock but I'd rather hear something with a little bit more of message than what I hear from most people on radio now. I liked it when people made bold statements about current events in songs. LOL

As Gretchen sings...
Which, of course, didn't get AirPlay in the proObama country music establishment. The folks at CMT had Obama campaign posters in their offices and Tracy Byrd never got AirPlay after he spoke against the Dixie Chicks. That's what happens when you hire folks for Mtv and then transfer them to program music on CMT.

I love that song! That is exactly how I feel on a variety of issues LOL
I've always liked Gretchen Wilson. I have a couple of her albums. Seems Gretchen was just too real and not blonde enough for country radio. I also love her song Politically Uncorrect. For the most part no one on country radio speaks for anymore.
What did Tracy Byrd say about the Dixie Chicks? Why did CMT ban him but keep playing Toby Keith after everything he said about the chicks?

I thought you might....Gretchen being a big Kid Rock fan like you are. Tracy gave a short speech which GAC aired, right after the Chicks made the comment in London. He said that, as a Texan, he was proud Bush was from our state and that it really made him mad that Natalie would say what she did about another Texan in a foreign country. It was a pretty common sentiment here in Texas. In the same time frame, yard signs popped up all over the place around us here in Houston saying We're Proud Bush is from Texas. It's a Texas thing. I would imagine CMT kept playing Toby Keith because they had no real choice not to. Just like they played Darryl Worley's "Have You Forgotten" under deep duress. There was a grassroots movement to get that one on the radio and the programmers said nasty things about it and Darryl. For that matter, nasty people went to Darryl's concerts after that and went after him in the meet and greet line. Of course, that didn't work out well for the nasty people because Darryl is the son of a man who decided in the middle of his life to be an evangelical preacher. Darryl called them on their BS and told them to move on. I'm guessing this is what your missing in today's environment....I know Toby was your guy for years and years. How about a little Breelan....she opened for Loretta Lynn when she was here a couple years ago.

Toby still is my guy! He's never been afraid to say things no one else will. He's that guy. Which is also why I have started to like Kid Rock in recent years. I want to hear more people like them. Gretchen Wilson is that way too. The old masters (Waylon, Willie, Merle, etc.) were that way. I admire and identify with people like that. The unwillingness to give an unfettered opinion without fear is part of what is wrong with our country. I doubt it's a surprise to anyone who knows my musical tastes that I am supporting Trump for president. I haven't been this excited about a candidate ever HA HA the girl in the video is good

Miranda, I've been meaning to ask but I keep getting sidetracked. I know your all in for Trump so maybe, perhaps, you'd be so kind to tell us your perspective on the reasons you think he'd be a great President? There are a lot of folks out there saying a lot of things about him and I've read some of it, skipped more of it, but I'm not getting a sense of his policy positions. Can you help me out here?

I like Trump because he is not afraid to speak hard truths and he's not afraid of anyone. He hasn't said much about any specific policy, and he may not know much about policy matters. Then again, Obama got elected twice and he probably knew less than Trump. I think the bottom line with trump is, I believe he can fix our economic problems. I think he knows about money and I think he will have ace negotiators working our trade deals, just like he says. I also think he's smart enough to put knowledgable people in position to handle matters he doesn't know much about, which is something Obama has never done. I think it should appeal to all of us that Trump is self-funding. I don't think he intends to be anybody's patsy and I think he is the only one who projects an aura of leadership whatsoever. And Lord knows we have been lacking leadership for a long time now.

Miranda,
I'm a big fan of personal honesty myself.
So, Sarah Palin is now saying she would like to be Trump's Energy Secretary. Whether Trump chooses her or not, I think it's another thing in his favor with the tea party crowd that she is speaking up and supporting him.
Do you know anything about Trump's sister, the federal Judge he says he'd like to name for the Supreme Court?
The Court is a big issue for me....Chevron us sitting on the cusp of being written over and we really really really need Justices who believe in the balance of judiciary, Congress and Executive ...we have to reverse the federal agency governing which bypasses the balance of our federal government.
This next session of the Court is headed there but we need conservative Justices. we're talking the real future of our country...not just four or eight years.

I am sure a lot of people would scream nepotism if Trump appointed his sister to the Supreme Court. I personally think appointing a federal judge for life is a load crap and it needs to be stopped. That is as bad or worse than appointing a president for life, if you ask me.
Speaking of federal judges and the Supreme Court, I don't know if you have keeping up with the case of Kentucky clerk who refused to issue the marriage licenses or not. But this issue has just about driven me insane. It is causing more strife in communities and families than anything I have ever seen. Of course I am just one county away from where all this has taken place, but people here have absolutely lost their minds. On BOTH sides.
All of the events of the last several months remind me of this song from Toby. I love it how he goes after everyone and I am getting ready to do the same myself (HA HA):

Miranda,
I've read the headline that they released her from jail but don't know the details. What's it like there where it's up close and personal?
Here in Houston the talk is all about the deputy who was shot and buried last week. The Houston Chronicle Sunday newspaper dedicated the entire first section to it under the headline EVIL NEVER WINS.
Other media pushed for the BLM movement as Houston was burying one of our own.
Today on RealClearPolitics the linked articles reflect the demise of the movement...PJM says they will be gone in a year. Even Juan Williams talks about how they are playing with fire and he's the liberal guy who's written a book on the original civil rights movement.

Darryl stills sings and is touring now.
He has had bad luck with labels...he had three that went out of business and is on his fourth. Hasn't had an album for a while now.
