Another good one Miranda.
My favorite is Drunk Americans.
It gives me the warm fuzzies. I Love This Bar has always been one of my favorite Toby songs. This one carries it forward.

Drunk Americans is okay, but I don't really like the video all that much. I read that Brandy Clark wrote the song.

Wow, I didn't know that. I love, love, love, love, love Brandy Clark. She's one of my new favorites.
I do love the entire album and I just looked, it's the only song on the album Toby didn't write.

I can see the video now. I was on a Toby music binge on the radio thread this morning and he has some heartbreakers but he also has so much music which is just plain fun. Another favorite of mine from his new album Its getting late late in the day...I'm ready for soulful.

Did you read the NYTimes review of Toby's new album I posted on the Strait thread a couple of days ago?
It was a joint review...of Toby's new album and George's new album. Said that classic soul is hiding out in country music.

Thanks for letting me know about that review Jo. It's surprising that the New York Times would give Toby such a good review. I don't know how they have reviewed Strait in the past, but I can assure you they probably never said anything that good about Toby. LOL
I agree with the line that said the old guys like Toby and George have moved onto a more low-key soul-type sound. Anyone who has listened to Toby's last few albums – Clancy's Tavern, Hope On The Rocks, Drinks After Work and 35 MPH Town – can see that he's not doing the same kind of music he had been at the height of his popularity. But it's not evident to a lot of people because of the radio singles he has chosen. There is still some of that rabble-rousing attitude, but overall I think Toby has finally realized that he's proven everything he can possibly prove to the Nashville establishment (mainly that he doesn't need their support) and he doesn't see fhe need to raise hell anymore – unless there is a good reason to.

I was surprised too...we all know how the NY Times is. I'll read an article here and there online and then go to comments and their readers pretty much reflect the hate rednecks and Republicans schtick. Not that Toby is a Republican.
About the music, I agree.
Alan Jackson got a really nice review from NPR for his new album too.
All three albums are excellent and all three are following their own paths rather than the trends.
Radio wasn't doing much of diddly for George's new single. Then, pretty much unexpectedly, George released the album. I heard about it maybe a week before it was out. First week out, despite limited release...Walmart and downloads....it got beat on the chart. Second week out, it went to number one.
I'm not convinced that what the youth market buys is homogenized music. My son loves pretty much all genres but his favorite country album this year is Aaron Watson. Also excellent and it went to number one without mainstream radio play. I haven't given him Toby yet.
His fiancé is a George Strait fan like I am.
Son says whatever genre he's listening to he wants to hear it in its purest form from someone who lives in the culture. He likes the individuality of people pursuing their own paths.
I'll have to add in something from Aaron's new album.
