I was surprised too...we all know how the NY Times is. I'll read an article here and there online and then go to comments and their readers pretty much reflect the hate rednecks and Republicans schtick. Not that Toby is a Republican. About the music, I agree. Alan Jackson got a really nice review from NPR for his new album too. All three albums are excellent and all three are following their own paths rather than the trends. Radio wasn't doing much of diddly for George's new single. Then, pretty much unexpectedly, George released the album. I heard about it maybe a week before it was out. First week out, despite limited release...Walmart and downloads....it got beat on the chart. Second week out, it went to number one. I'm not convinced that what the youth market buys is homogenized music. My son loves pretty much all genres but his favorite country album this year is Aaron Watson. Also excellent and it went to number one without mainstream radio play. I haven't given him Toby yet. His fiancé is a George Strait fan like I am. Son says whatever genre he's listening to he wants to hear it in its purest form from someone who lives in the culture. He likes the individuality of people pursuing their own paths. I'll have to add in something from Aaron's new album. Ha ha, I don't know what Toby is. I think he's anything and everything like Donald Trump. There for awhile he was telling people he was a Democrat, which is not really a surprise. Most people in southern states are registered democrats. I was for awhile myself. But then I saw Glenn Beck talking to Trace Adkins on his show about Toby's politics when they were touring together and Trace was like, "I can assure you that man is no Democrat. He's not like any Democrat I've ever seen" but now he claims to be a registered independent so who knows. The New York Times typically thinks everyone who doesn't espouse their views is a Republican though. That's why I am shocked they gave a "Republican" such a great review LOL Here is another example of "soul" from Toby

Awesome choice Miranda. I've always loved Toby's growl.
Toby lives somewhere in between parties. Hag and Willie are old school Democrats and they're all friends. Jimmy Buffett was in his new video and he's another Democrat....which I only know from an old news article when he got his cell phone stolen. He had Jimmy Carter and other top Democrats phone numbers stored in it so the secret service had to get involved.
more of a Jim Webb type democrat...and that guy is getting no traction in today's democrat party. Reporters were making fun of his military service after the democratic debate.
I used to be a registered independent before W.

This is one of my favorites from Toby and it's kind of got a bit of a blues feel too. The song is so sexy and he looks so good in that picture it keeps showing. lol

Bruce was also a heckuva songwriter and singer. He's also one of my long time favorites. He co-starred with James Garner in the early 80's tv show Bret Maverick.
....Waylon will always rock.

Old footage of Waylon
I know Waylon and Toby have been your favorites Miranda and they both have so many great songs. My favorite Waylon albums are "Dreamin My Dreams" and "The Eagle". He's had so many great albums but those two are the ones I go back to the most.
Which albums are your favorites?

I have several of his albums including The Eagle, but my favorites are Honky Tonk Heroes and Are You Ready For The Country. I also like I've Always Been Crazy. That was one contains Waylon's cover of I Walk The Line and he also covers Tonigt The Bottle Let Me Down (Merle Haggard) and a medley of Buddy Holly tunes.
The Eagle is pretty good too, as it has songs on it that I had heard other people sing as covers, but I didn't realize Waylon had been the original artist. Gary Allan's "Her Man" and Travis Tritt's "Where Corn Don't Grow"
Here is a great song from Waylon. The picture in the video shows the album it's from:

Honky Tonk Heroes would have been my third choice. Someone has kindly put the whole album on a playlist on youtube here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uH_U3c7OYlM&list=PLD3E293914283ED3AWhen I do a link that goes directly there instead of embedding it here, it's so the playlist will roll forward to the next song. Doesn't seem to work the same when you embed it.

I wish there were still outlaws like Waylon Jennings around. I know Willie and Merle are still with us, but it's Waylon who really appeals to my inner rebel LOL
Toby Keith is kind of like Waylon in a lot of respects. I imagine they would have sung together some if Waylon hadn't died before Toby became a huge star in the early 2000s. I would have loved to hear Waylon sing Beer For My Horses with Toby and Willie. That would have been so awesome.

Waylon's would have loved Beer for My Horses.
Toby, Ray Scott and Waylon could have been the new Highwaymen
Would have been a fun video for Toby and Ray for Ashtray on a motorcycle
