This is the latest video of Jackson Taylor and The Sinners: Old Henry Rifle youtu.be/2xLz8-iU5Yc Please look over the crude way that they perform and their timing couldn't be any worse. But they are what they are...IMO! ;D

Today is the first day I've ever heard of Jackson Taylor and the Sinners.
I'm concerned about the loss of liberty and government overreach too. I've taken to reading the SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States) online blog now and then. There's been a really interesting trend with the court the past few years and with key decisions on the docket for 2015, it'll be interesting to see if the trend of the past few years continues or takes another direction.
IMHO, the Supreme Court has been scaling back executive overreach more than it has since FDR. Trying to preserve the balance of our three legged system of government. It took me a while to see it because it's a pattern rather than a single decision and I'm sure lots of folks would disagree with my interpretation of the Court's actions. There are a lot of people out there writing about the overreach of the US Supreme Court also.
It's an interesting thing. For me at least.
That said, I'm also very worried about how gutted the US military has become. Just read an article in the American Legion magazine about how bad it is now. We're now at pre-WWII levels and are headed back to pre-WWI levels. Yet the federal government is talking expansion of boots in three theatres....Iraq, Afghanistan and Africa.
I'm not a gun person but I'm glad these guys are out there singing about protecting our right to bear arms.

I like artists with something to say...and the way they say it...that is my opinion. If I hear an artist badmouthing women...cussing just to be cussing...I simply turn it off...that is my choice. When artists say what is on their mind...with no apologies...I will listen. Jackson was just about to cross over the plains where no real country artist has returned...to the discount bin. I showed him a cuss word that I made up that combines every cuss word that I could think of all in one word...kinda puts things in perspective. You lose about 50% of your general country fan base with cussing...50% of that by pissed off women...that leaves you with about 25% of your potential fanbase. Now partying hard with your fans and travel costs etc. probably eat up 15% of your cost...which leaves 10% of what you could have made for your pocket...or new tires. He knows this stuff already...but refuses to cover his values and his anger for no one...especially for money...then it was I who realized that he was right. youtu.be/8Up0vaSHAmA This is another cause video...just cause. I think that the man has made his own path...and it is up to us the fans to follow...or at least give us the faith to believe in ourselves.

Michael,
I see why you like this guy so much.
Adding in the personal....just 'cause it's what I do....
My husband's granny was born a Mennonite. She, along with her brothers and sisters established a Presbyterian Church in the small farming town they lived in....the first non-Mennonite church in town ...because they wanted to have music in their church services.
My husband is so very much like his grandfather --her husband. It's one of those uncanny things that everyone in the family comments on.
Moving forward to my husband's childhood. The Westboro Baptist Church (featured in the video you just linked) is about 5 or 6 blocks from the house my husband grew up in. Long before they were nationally known, they were on the street corners protesting a wide variety of issues. The churches in the area reacted by preaching more about love and not hating... and not perpetuating hate, especially through religion.
For the last ten or fifteen years my husband has tried to embrace that by attending a liberal Congregational church. Part of the UCC church ....which was also featured in the video you linked through Jeremiah Wright...the UCC minister of the church President Obama went to for two decades. I've spoken before of how I have issues with the hate from pulpit from liberal churches and UCC in particular.
It's also something that hubby and I have talked about at length for a lot of years now but he held to his belief that the other things the Congregational Church he went to and which we financially supported outweighed the negative. For years he was on the church's Church in Society board and as part of that, he would be on the float in the annual gay pride parades in Houston handing out church keychains and t-shirts. My husband fully believes in religion being open and affirming.
But....after the grand jury decision in Ferguson Missouri, the minister at hubby's church preached hate one too many times, calling for people in the church to join the protests in the streets and he came home from church so upset that he asked me the details of what had happened there. Hubby doesn't follow the news. So I told him the details and what the forensics said. He wrote to the minister and she called him back. They spoke about it for two hours. Mostly he gave her the chance to tell him why she felt as she did. Hubby is very much a man who listens. People, especially women, have always loved him. : )
The end result though is that he has decided that he no longer wants to be a part of the church. He's finishing out the year there because he's always been part of the choir and there are lots of year end events. It's also given him a chance to say goodbye in a nice way to the folks there and given us the time to finish out our financial pledges to the church.
At the first of the year, we'll be going to a new church. We've decided on a Presbyterian one near our house. His mom was a Presbyterian and I think it'll be a good fit. They don't seem to be working on social activism on a national level....rather they support the local homeless shelter, the local food bank, local seniors....things like that. Churches do a whole lot of good in the world and I do believe they are one of the things and one of the ways that help shape our lives in positive ways.
But Michael.....if my husband, a died in the wool advocate from childhood on, has turned this corner because of the hate being preached out there...which he always thought he was standing against, then I don't believe he's the only one who is wondering if hate has become the mantra.
To be clear, less someone get the idea this is a partisan thing .... Democrats will be torn by this ....cities are largely Democrat. Police Unions in cities are largely Democrat. This hate being preached does incredible harm to their party ...and I've been hoping that the center would return to the political spectrum because that's where I've lived most of my life.
Of course, haters (and I dislike usually that word casually but in this case, when your screaming about death to others, it's hard to ascribe another word to it) will hate but a whole lot of older liberals out there have long believed they were working against hate.
Of course, I always embrace free speech...people can always speak. I just wish they could see past their blinders and see how much damage is being done.
At the very least, the $5,000 we gave this past year to a liberal church will from now on go to a church more concerned about helping the homeless and the hungry rather than preaching hate from the pulpit.

I really like that they're wearing overalls on stage. : )
My dad and grandpa lived in overalls. Don't see them so much anymore...or at least I don't living in a 'burb of Houston.

Very nice Jo...I am sure he will appreciate it...glad to hear that he is maturing...if he would have kept up his previous life style...who knows.
The Sinners are now ranked # 19,989 on the best selling chart...and moving up!
"The record was recorded live in August 2014 over a few days with long time co-producer Omar Vallejo. The record features eight Taylor originals that have all appeared previously on other JTS CD's but on Cantina the theme is stripped down acoustic. There are no electric instruments on Cantina. With only acoustic guitar, fiddle, cajon, stand up bass, trumpets and accordion all the Sinner elements are still present. All the energy and ferocity that you would expect from a Sinners release is here in spades. The production is similar to the 2012 critical darling Bad JuJu but where Bad JuJu is kinetic, Cantina Del Diablo is more controlled. That might have lot to do with the fact that Jackson has more control over himself these days and that control has shown itself in back-to-back Billboard charting releases Crazy Again in 2013, and Live at Billy Bobs in 2014. Jackson has long been Texas musics' reigning bad boy, leading to the Sinners being known as Texas' most dangerous band, but there is a maturity in Jackson that has affected his music with a controlled chaos. Cantina borrows heavily on the Mariachi music Jackson grew up with working in the migrant fruit orchards of California, Washington, Oregon and Montana as a child. Taylor is an interpretive song writer and this record is an ode to those early days, and a musical style that has had an immense influence on him. "[/b]

I'm not sure the new album will be released on it's release date. Amazon still has it showing as we'll let you know when we have more information. Happens a lot with albums...no biggie. It'll come when it comes.

Heres what ole Jack said today about his new album...
"People are starting to get their advance copies of Cantina Del' Diablo and I've been getting nothing but great feed back. I was worried because it's almost all acoustic and mariachi but people are loving it. I hope I get the same reaction from everyone. Thanks for the support!!!! Remember to please tell a friend. You are our marketing. We are a 100% word of mouth band. No publicist, no radio promotion. Just you and who you tell about us. Thanks!!!"

A wedding...how awesome....Congratulations to the happy couple. : ) Yes his life is looking up...as long as his Princess sticks around... There is rumor of a record deal now...so they are looking for a place in Nashville. I enjoy following an artist before they make it...but in Jacksons case...I worry.

This is the Ad that they put on Craigslist...I told him it looked like a scam...he agreed. lol
"Attn Nashville/Clarksville Area. Princess Stef and I are looking at making our move in May or June. We would like to be in the Clarksville Tn area. Doesn't matter if it's on the Kentucky or Tennessee side. I'm not really sure of the difference in the cost of living verse one over the other. I need a nice two to three bedroom two bath with a garage. I am seeing allot of nice reasonable stuff on Craigslist but thought I'd give social media a try. Any insight or help will be appreciated. Thank you."
This is what I told him to write...
Music artists... new to town looking for help in finding a place...hopefully North of Nashville.
