My day.....first day of retirement....sort of. My principal has a bunch of grant money for next year so he talked me into coming back for a special project two days a week in the Fall....but basically, I'm done. So much to do at home I'll be busier than ever, but on my terms.... Congratulations on your sort of retirement. Save

Spent the day with my dad - had his second cataract surgery done. Everything went well but they lost his glasses!! He wanted the frames for his new lenses - which they are now paying for since they lost his old ones!!

Friday I picked up an extra shift at the food pantry. Yesterday we decided to just hang out at home. Today was church.

Last week was hectic again. Johnny ended up telecommuting three days because he kept getting all night trouble calls. Had food pantry on Tuesday and Friday. Son is over everyday now as he works through his outpatient stuff.
Today was quieter though. Did stuff around the house.

Today was ridiculously unbearable heat wise. Not sure what it is in Fahrenheit, but our temp today was 32C and with the humidity it felt like 40C. We are supposed to have this for the next week. I heard on the news today last summer (June, July and August) we had 18 days of temperatures over 32C. This summer for the same period we have had 38 days of over 32C temperatures!! I was looking forward to the nice fall temperatures we usually get starting in September, but doesn't look like we will be getting that until October!!

I'm thinking about the folks in Florida and along the southern east coast and keeping them in my thoughts and prayers. Hurricane Matthew is a monster storm.

I'm thinking about the folks in Florida and along the southern east coast and keeping them in my thoughts and prayers. Hurricane Matthew is a monster storm. Well hello Jo and everyone! This hurricane is a whopper...all the times that we had to ride these out on ships was imprinted in my mind. Once we went dead in the water in the triangle...no way to really control the ship. A ship likes to ride the trough which is the smooth surface between the waves...so you can look out and see a wall of water on both sides. When dependent on emergency power you only have aft steering which the bridge tells you which way to manually turn the rudder. Impossible to really navigate with this type of communication so you go cross wave and OMG everything comes unglued. Sailors flying through the air...along with pots and pans broken ketchup bottles and bug juice...that was just the galley. Felt like 30 foot free falls and then a crash...you could actually time it...heck you had two days of it. No one to rescue you... and then sunshine...the eye of the storm right in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle. The water was stable enough to fire up the boilers...but guess what...the gyro went down! We had a helicopter taking photos of your ship for the cover of all hands magazine...we were found. The other eye wall was not as bad...duh...we still had the load and control of the ship. We went to Bermuda for seems like 2 weeks for R & R & R ...it was all worth it. Long story short... Not yet... I pray for all the folks in harms way. I pray for the sailors stuck in the sea and at hotels. I pray that the hurricane parties went off without a hitch. I pray that people realize that it is not the things that you salvage after the storm... it is the relationships and connections that you make on your journey that you must redeem. I pray hard for forgiveness of my transgressions.

Washout of a weekend - went to Stafford Speedway for delayed racing, rain and everyone leaving - hung out at a steakhouse to watch the Charlotte race and football, got home and found out they were able to race at 8 PM. UGH!

I don't remember if I posted that my three year old car lost it's transmission for the second time in the year a month or so ago. It's a factory recall so Ford paid for the repair but obviously I made a poor buying decision when I bought it.
Now I have a 2016 Honda Fit which I truly love. I've named her Emily Elizabeth because she's a bright red like Clifford the Big Red Dog. I went to Kohl's and bought the $5 Kohl's cares stuffed Clifford the Big Red Dog and Emily Elizabeth and strapped them in the back seat. Now they travel everywhere with me. : )

Sorry to hear of your car troubles Jo. I have a 2006 Ford Focus wagon and it has been great. Just paid it off at the beginning of summer. It's kind of low for me to get in and out of as it bothers my knees, so hubby is going to drive it and I'm going to get an Escape.
Hope Emily Elizabeth is good to you.
