Another Brainstorm...look out!!!
Upon further research of this song of Harlan county I had to dig into the roots. This song was written by a rather young feller.
I thought it was written ages ago...it has been covered by many...Kathy Mattea did it justice.
I always feel that the writers version is the most perfect...he has some unwritten law that gives him these rights.
The right to change the song to how they are feeling...and it is still perfect because it is the creation of the writer.
In this case...of this song...the writer may just be a tool used by the creator.

What was it...sometime in the early 90's Travis Tritt made a splash...dude is really unbelievable.
Remember Travis Tritt and Marty Stuart era...I became a solid fan with Travis's trilogy.
Sometimes I fly through a video not saying how it affects me...
and thankfully in these videos I don't have too...they speak for themselves.
Which brings me to the question...why can't music really mean something anymore?
If it means something to the writer then it should stand on it's own merits.
If a song is written for the masses then it's too watered down for me.
I like my music like I like my coffee...nice and strong!

Michael,
I've always loved "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" and I hadn't heard the songwriter sing it before. I love to watch songwriters sing their own songs. Loved his cover of "Satisfied Mind" too. Patty is always awesome.
I've never seen the sequels to Travis' song....he done real good.

The other day I read a headline that said it had been twelve years since Natalie Maines made the comment in London and then the whole Dixie Chicks thing unfolded. In the early days, I was sure it would all be smoothed over. I think most people wanted it to be. I definitely did. When it did become obvious that they'd chosen a different direction (which they had every right to do), this song was the one I listened to over and over and over and over again. It's definitely a goodbye song.
I was reminded of it again ....12 years.

Nice tune for sure Jo...
I was just thinking of artists like Garth and Shania making their comeback.
I was a big fan of Shanias...but not her fan club.
I think that she still charges a fee to get in her fan club.
I remember making a remark about how Taylor will be as big as Shania will one day.
Of coarse they were all over me like you guys have already witnessed in the CWO forums.
Anyway they refunded my membership fees and slammed the door.
Taylor has reached out to Shania they even made this video together.
Anyway...I think that Shania has turned down some special guest appearences on the Speak Now Tour.
I wish that they would preform together....soon.
Here is Shanias latest...
This is Shania Twain’s advice to country songwriters: Go deeper, especially if you are writing songs women might sing. “It’s not about being tough or writing lyrics about being strong or sassy,” she said in a recent interview with Macleans, a Canadian magazine. “It is deeper than that. I think it’s about true self-awareness and having a real vision of where you belong in society. It’s not about conveying a superficial, ultra-beautiful, boss-warrior. We can go deeper than that.” We can, and she did. Twain was unafraid to tackle some real issues in the ‘90s, but she knows that those songs might have come across as man-bashing tunes.

The more I found out about Shania as time went along, the bigger fan I became. I really like who she is as a person. Since I'm a big fan of dancing with the one who brought me....loyalty is a big thing for me. Hardly surprising since I'm not only a Leo, I was born almost center of the time frame for being a Leo.

Jo - Did you see her TV show recently? I taped it and watched. It was one of the ones she did in Las Vegas. I always liked Shania.

I missed it Miranda. We don't have cable anymore so I rarely have the tv on except for the local weather in the morning or while we're watching Netflix.
How was it?

Jo - I couldn't live without cable. LOL! The Shania show was good. She's older, of course, than when we heard her on country radio, but she still has it, I think.

I used to think that too Kora. There was a time when I had CMT on all the time. Then it changed to GAC when CMT quit playing much music. Then that changed too with the times. I just moved onto other things.
